Frontier Audio Labs is looking for an extremely passionate and creative RF hardware intern with initial experience (via school or personal projects) in RF hardware and PCB design/prototyping/testing. The selected individual will play an important role in the R&D and product development process and their work will have a huge impact on the safety and productivity of millions of end-users powering and protecting the world. While Frontier Audio as a startup may not be able to offer top-bucket cash compensation starting off, this position will include a significant (multiple percent) equity stake.
Responsibilities |
Lead wireless communication engineering on cutting edge wearable with real time voice communication and data transfer over miles
Design systems with unprecedented combination of range, coverage, and transmission quality within immensely tight constraints in power, size, etc.
Focus on communication architecture, RF circuit (and some general) PCB design and testing, antenna design and testing, and high level embedded software for RF portion of system
Frontier research and development and rapid hardware and software prototyping of communication systems
Test, measurement, and certification
Collaborating with mechanical, audio algorithm/DSP, and electrical/hardware engineers
Qualifications |
Required
Experience working on voice communication devices such as business radios, military radios, or cell phones
Experience designing mixed signal high speed circuits including creating schematics, PCB layout/design, and PCB prototyping and testing
Dedication to creating products at the frontier delivering unprecedented capabilities to huge underserved end-users critical to society
Experience in RF circuit design in software like Altium and testing
Some embedded software experience in C or C++
Initial understanding of voice and data communication technologies, systems, networks and RF ICS/SOCs
Self-driven engineer who can independently prioritize and "get things done"
Must have ability to be qualified to work in the U.S. in less than 3 months and have no restrictions for international travel
Ability to commute to Frontier Audio Labs' Chicago office on a daily basis
Preferred
Experience with antenna simulation, design, and testing
Independent RF prototyping and design work
3+ years of PCB design and prototyping experience via independent projects, internships, or school
Members of our engineering team have degrees in electrical engineering or a similar field (mechanical or audio engineering, physics, etc.), but if you have taken a different route to gain the required experience, that is acceptable
