The Fuller Project is the global nonprofit newsroom dedicated to groundbreaking investigative journalism that shines a light on the stories of women around the world. As our Director of Development, you will play a major role in growing and diversifying our revenue, ensuring we have the resources to expand our impact. Your role is extremely hands-on: you will execute strategies to build meaningful relationships with high-net-worth donors, foundations, and institutional partners who believe in the power of fearless journalism. Your work will support investigative stories that create global awareness and drive social change on issues ranging from human rights and education to health and economic equity.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the CEO to implement a comprehensive, multi-year fundraising strategy that aligns with The Fuller Project's mission and editorial priorities.

  • Leverage the CEO's involvement in all institutional fundraising activities, as well as engage the executive team staff, reporters, and board members in fundraising when appropriate; provide support to the CEO for fundraising events and high touch conversations.

  • Identify and cultivate opportunities to grow long-term relationships that yield high donor and funder engagement and giving.

  • Manage a portfolio of donors and funders - build on existing relationships, initiate new relationships, and improve donor/funder retention through meaningful stewardship strategies.

  • Oversee the development of compelling proposals and presentations that effectively communicate The Fuller Project's impact and the value of individual donor support.

  • Ensure compliance with funder regulations and specific terms and conditions of grant awards.

  • Conceptualize and produce all fundraising and development events, activities, and special projects; develop a long-range calendar of events and ensure project timelines are met.

  • Manage a team including a development project manager and a development consultant. Foster a culture of collaboration, skill-building, and knowledge sharing; provide training, support, and guidance to ensure that best practices are utilized to achieve financial goals.

  • Represent The Fuller Project as needed at relevant fundraising events, community gatherings, and donor cultivation activities to expand the organization's network and visibility.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with a demonstrated track record of developing and implementing successful revenue strategies.

  • Excellent relationship management, communication, and interpersonal skills, and established writing skills

  • Proven ability to develop and implement effective individual giving fundraising strategies.

  • In-depth knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends within the nonprofit sector.

  • Superior organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, and with diverse internal and external partners.

  • A passion for news and advancing change for women and underrepresented communities.

Location

This position is based in Washington DC. The Fuller Project team works a hybrid schedule with at least 2 days in the office.

Compensation

The salary range for this full-time position is $130,000-$140,000 benchmarked against DC/NYC cost of living. Actual salary from this range will be based on the candidate's experience and qualifications as well as their geographic location.
