Compensation: $115,000 - $130,000/annually

About Restore America's Estuaries
Restore America's Estuaries (RAE) is a national leader in coastal restoration and protection, practitioner education and advocacy. Our local projects restore coastal wetlands, open fish passages, remove invasive species, engage communities, and build organizational capacity. We advance the science and practice of habitat restoration through high-level meetings, technical exchanges and our biennial?RAE Coastal & Estuarine Summit. As a leader in coastal issues, we advocate for coastal communities through engagement with Congress and the federal administration.
Moving Forward
Restore America's Estuaries is completing its 2019-2024 strategic plan with successful implementation in key areas such as funding and creating programs to ensure a more inclusive distribution of resources in the coastal sector. As we launch our 2025-2028 plan we are looking to strengthen operational excellence, foster an organizational culture of belonging, and expand our programs.
ROLE OVERVIEW As Restore America's Estuaries continues to grow, we are looking to add a collaborative, forward looking senior leader to continuously improve operations, grant management and organizational performance. We have a long track record of clean audits and compliance with all federal regulations and procurement processes. This role will manage two grant administrators, an outsourced accounting firm, and an outsourced IT firm and reports to the President.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; master's preferred
Minimum of 10 years of experience in management within the nonprofit sector; preferably in the environmental or coastal sector
Proven track record in financial management, grants administration, and operations
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to facilitate integrating different functions and supporting staff
Experience with federal awards and compliance requirements; demonstrated experience working with agencies such as EPA, NOAA and Department of Interior preferred
Expertise working in QuickBooks and Bill.com, experience with grant management systems such as Blackbaud, federal payments systems like ERA Commons
Experience managing outsourced relationships in IT, audit and finance functions
Knowledge of labor regulations and human resource practices; experience managing human resource activities preferred
Fluency in spoken and written English; multi-lingual skills preferred and highly valued?
Must have prior authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship; full-time residency in the United States, with a strong preference for living near Washington, DC
Passion for coastal conservation issues preferred?
PRIMARY DUTIES Leadership and Management
Oversee daily operations and administration, including two staff members
Mentor and support development of direct reports, and more broadly in the organization
Foster organizational culture of thoughtful action and collaboration
Manage finance, grants, and federal awards reporting and compliance
Provide guidance and support to department heads and staff focused on financial compliance and operational guidance
Financial Oversight
Develop and implement financial strategies including an annual plan and long-term forecasting
Manage federal single annual audit process; periodic agency program audits for NOAA, EPA and other federal agencies
Manage Board audit committee; collaborate with Board on financial management
Manage budgeting, cash flow, and financial reporting
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
Support budgeting and organizational resource planning on funding proposals
Grants Management
Oversee the administration and compliance of federal grants according to 2 CRF 200, foundation and private grants according to grant terms
Ensure accurate and timely reporting to funders across federal agencies, foundations and private sector donors
Provide oversite of RFPs on grants and contracts
Develop and maintain relationships with federal project officers and administrative staff; act as key resource on escalation of compliance questions
Human Resource and Operations Management
Oversee human resources, IT, and administrative functions
Work on cross cutting initiatives to foster staff engagement and belonging
Implement and improve operational policies and procedures
Ensure staff are trained on key policies and procedures
Design information management and performance dashboards
Strategic Planning & Execution
Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic goals
Collaborate with staff to align operations with organizational objectives
