Position Overview:

We're seeking a dynamic and innovative Director of Marketing & Sales to spearhead our efforts in cultivating a global audience for TOKYOPOP's expanding portfolio. This role will lead all marketing and sales initiatives, shaping and executing strategies across manga publishing, merchandise, and anime promotion, with an eye toward emerging opportunities in video games.

This is a hybrid role based in Los Angeles, CA, allowing the right candidate to engage with our team on-site as well as remotely.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and oversee a multi-channel marketing and sales strategy that positions TOKYOPOP at the forefront of pop culture, delivering growth across our publishing, merchandising, and anime projects.
  • Market Expansion: Identify new market opportunities in the realms of merchandising, anime, and gaming, creating pathways for TOKYOPOP to expand its footprint and engage with diverse fan communities.
  • Brand Development: Build a unified brand experience across all touchpoints, strengthening TOKYOPOP's identity in the competitive and rapidly evolving fan-oriented marketplace.
  • Campaign Management: Design and manage marketing campaigns that connect with fans on a meaningful level, driving engagement across digital platforms, in-person events, and collaborations.
  • Sales Growth: Oversee sales initiatives, including partnerships, retail strategy, and direct-to-consumer channels, aiming to grow our audience and revenue.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage data and analytics to optimize marketing performance, generate insights, and refine strategies to maximize impact and return on investment.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a growing team of marketing professionals, fostering an environment of innovation, passion, and growth.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field. MBA or relevant advanced degree a plus.
  • 8+ years of experience in marketing and sales, preferably within publishing, entertainment, or fan-oriented pop culture sectors.
  • Proven experience in multi-channel campaign development, with a strong portfolio of successful digital and experiential campaigns.
  • Demonstrated expertise in leading brand growth and expansion into new product categories or media.
  • Knowledge and passion for manga, anime, gaming, and/or broader fan culture.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and performance measurement, with the ability to leverage insights for strategy refinement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a knack for storytelling and engaging fans authentically.
  • Leadership experience, with a track record of team building and employee development.
  • Based in Los Angeles, CA, with the flexibility for a hybrid work model.
