The Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy (KYEA) is a non-profit organization that supports youth with disabilities in becoming active and valuable community members. KYEA is committed to fostering a supportive and productive work environment.
KYEA presents the EmpowerMe workshops to over 400 students each school year, traveling throughout the state and offering virtual sessions up to 15 times annually. These workshops cover essential soft skills, resume writing, and job exploration. As part of this role, you will work with other program coordinators to improve these presentations. Also, you will be responsible for finding donations for meals and prizes for each session and following up with youth after each event to discuss their employment goals and any help they may need. The Executive Director will decide on additional tasks as required.
Success in the role is measured on:
Accurate reporting of information pertinent to KYEA programs according to requirements set forth by the Executive Director and the Program Coordinator.
Growth of relationships between KYEA and community organizations and businesses for recruitment purposes in collaboration with the Executive Director
Effective in providing training and support to the youth KYEA supports.
Effective written and oral communication promptly agreed upon by the Executive Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Coordinate and implement the Pre-ETS program and create and support the EmpowerMe training for selected youth across the state.
Research and apply for funding to support and grow program objectives.
Conduct outreach for recruitment and maintain relationships with community organizations.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions, ensuring content is accessible to all participants.
Manage program logistics, including accommodations, transportation, and speaker coordination.
Compile and analyze program data to assess effectiveness and guide improvements.
Provide follow-up support to participants, focusing on goal attainment and empowerment.
Work closely with external agencies, school personnel, and program funders to enhance curriculum and implement necessary changes.
Responsible for thoroughly documenting and maintaining accurate and timely data with all outreach and other activities in the role.
Maintain positive interactions with youth, staff, and the community, embodying KYEA's values.
Other:
Contribute by writing and submitting regular articles for the KYEA e-newsletter, sharing valuable insights and updates.
Collaborate with KYEA staff to deliver topical presentations as a sole presenter or co-presenter.
Assist in coordinating fundraising events for KYEA, contributing to the success of these initiatives.
Maintain a positive and respectful demeanor while interacting with consumers, colleagues, and the community.
Be prepared to take on additional duties assigned by KYEA leadership, contributing to the organization's success.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with diverse communities.
Strong proficiency in computer literacy with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Publisher.
Ability to relate to, communicate with, and respect youth and adults with disabilities and people with diverse backgrounds.
Ability to use good judgment and discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Excellent attention to detail and time management skills
Ability to initiate tasks and work with minimum supervision.
Ability to work as part of a team and to accept direction.
Ability to solve problems effectively and efficiently.
Working Hours:
Full-time position, working from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Some nights and weekends will be required during significant event times.
Working Location:
The position is currently based in Topeka. The Executive Director may accommodate hybrid work arrangements, subject to their discretion.
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties as required or assigned by the Executive Director and Program Coordinator.
Education / Certifications:
Minimum high school diploma.
Minimum of 2 years experience in a social services or related field.
