Job Description:

A growing franchise company is looking to hire a Director of Finance and Accounting to oversee and manage its accounting and finance operations. This person will be responsible for financial reporting, operational accounting, and financial planning and analysis. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of broad experience in accounting and finance positions with a proven track record in these areas. This is a fully remote position, but there is a strong preference for candidates who reside in either the Pacific or Mountain US time zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting and finance department consisting of 15+ staff.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies, models, and forecasts that support the company's short- and long-term goals.
  • Oversee annual budgeting, financial forecasting, and reporting processes. Ensure alignment with business objectives and proactive identification of variances.
  • Direct the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, shareholder reports, tax returns, and regulatory filings.
  • Manage cash flow planning, debt financing, and investment opportunities. Oversee capital structure decisions to support company growth.
  • Analyze operations to identify areas for cost optimization, productivity enhancements, and process improvements.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate processing of sales uploads and franchise statements. Includes handling exceptions for transfers, terminations and new stores.
  • Manage month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and flux analyses.
  • Support the preparation of state tax filings and ensure compliance with requirements from various states.
  • Coordinate internal, external, tax, and 401k audits.
  • Oversee the franchisee payment process and expense reimbursements.
  • Oversee processes related to external customers (franchisees and vendors) for invoicing, collections, dispute resolution, and account correspondence.
  • Monitor and report on late cash deposits, providing advice to the field on remediation and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Verify and maintain accurate company and franchise store counts for year-over-year comparisons.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and initiatives as assigned by management, contributing to the overall success of the finance team and the overall business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • MBA and CPA certification or progress towards CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of combined experience in general ledger accounting and financial planning and analysis, preferably in the retail or restaurant industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in managerial positions in accounting and finance.
  • Previous experience directly supporting owners of growing businesses.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP principles and financial reporting standards, with knowledge of hospitality-specific accounting practices preferred.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
