Manages the nutrition component of the Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Food Program. Supervises Program Nutritionists and Nutrition Assistants. Follows State and Federal policy and procedure guidelines. Senior Nutritionist is a member of the local WIC Program Management Team responsible for the administration and management of all nutrition services and health care aspects of the program.
1. Plans, supervises and evaluates the nutrition component of the program to ensure compliance
with federal regulations and state policies.
Develops local program nutrition procedures based on state WIC Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.
Recruits, hires (with Program Director), trains, and provides ongoing supervision for Program Nutritionists and Nutrition Assistants.
Mentors staff to ensure provision of effective nutrition services and education is given to families.
Defines (with Program Director) staff responsibilities, work schedules, participant service hours, and participant flow.
Supervises the nutrition staff to provide ongoing guidance and supervision to ensure that policy and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations.
Supervises Nutrition Assistants in the completion of required activities to obtain CPA 1 and 11 status, within established time frames.
Works with and supervises the Lactation Coordinator to develop, implement and evaluate the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program, electric breast pump loan program, breastfeeding promotion, support activities, and quarterly QA.
Ensures that nutrition staff have up-to-date knowledge and skills by:
Ensuring that nutrition staff obtain 10 CEU credits annually.
Conducting annual nutrition staff reviews with Program Director.
Plans staffing, participant service hours, participant flow, and staff roles and responsibilities to provide
services according to federal regulations and state policies, in coordination with Program Director, and assists in planning certification appointment/schedule.
Establishes schedules for follow-up nutrition education, individual and group.
Plans, develops, reviews, monitors and evaluates delivery of nutrition education; implementing new strategies to enhance services.
Oversees the planning, provision and evaluation of our annual Farmer's Market Events including nutrition education activities.
Attends WIC Nutritionist Work Group and Business Meetings and other required meetings at the Learning Center.
Acts as nutrition liaison between state agency and local program, and between local program and health care community.
Works with the Program Director and Community Coordinator to develop outreach and referral networks, and provide training, as needed to community agencies and health care providers.
Conducts quarterly visits with health care providers to communicate changes and ways to improve coordination.
Performs other duties as needed, including:
• Certifying high-risk women, infants and children.
• Providing nutrition education and referrals.
• Assisting in program administration.
Qualifications
Must have one of the below qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, Foods and Nutrition, or Nutrition Education, and one year of post-graduate, community nutrition experience.
• Registered Dietitian with one year of post-graduate, community nutrition experience. Licensure with the Board of Registration of Dietitians and Nutritionists preferred
• Bachelor's Degree in Public Health Nutrition, Nutrition, or Nutrition Education and two years experience of post-graduate, community nutrition experience.
