Job Description:

Come join the team at Cornhusker State Industries (CSI)! We provide workforce training and development to nearly 500 incarcerated men and women. CSI is a financially self-supported program of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS).

DUTIES:
Plan, assign, and direct inmate work activities. Ensure safety and security. Determine materials necessary for production/customer service. Submit timely orders. Ensure jobs are completed on time and to customer satisfaction. Works with customers to resolve product issues. Perform office related tasks: records, payroll, purchases, orders, costing, inventory, and other relevant data. Inspect tools, chemicals, and equipment; ensure safe use, and provide preventative maintenance. Assist with employee and inmate training. Develop quality control processes throughout stages of production. Analyze existing product design and develop cost effective methods. Pick up and deliver parts and supplies. Plan and coordinate special projects. Submit reports and handle correspondence. Drive laundry delivery truck as a backup. Provide shop relief as assigned, during this time hours may vary.



Requirements / Qualifications




Minimum Qualifications: Experience in a skilled trade or manufacturing work similar to the production in the assigned shop OR graduation from a vocational technical school relevant to the production process employed. No felony or domestic abuse related convictions.



Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of general equipment and facility maintenance. Knowledge and experience sufficient to recognize, analyze, prioritize and perform preventative maintenance and repairs. Project management experience in a laundry or manufacturing environment. Class A or B CDL preferred.



Other: Valid driver's license required. Must obtain Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.* Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

Knowledge, skills and abilities



Knowledge of: materials, machinery and tools used in a laundry; machinery maintenance; inventory control; safety; material movement and control; application processes; quality control.


Ability to: communicate effectively; train inmates in the production process; prepare reports; keep records; demonstrate machine or tool process; maintain close control over inmates; meet production requirements and standards in a production setting.
