The Department of Critical Care Medicine is currently recruiting a Lab Research Technician position to assist in research involved in modeling the genetic etiology of congenital heart disease in mice. The main responsibilities include setting up mating, weaning mice, ear tagging, tail snipping for genotyping, conducting PCR genotype assays, and detailed record keeping of mouse pedigrees in the colony.
Additional duties for this position may include conducting embryo harvest and necropsies for analysis of cardiac and other birth defects and carrying out imaging of mutant mice for phenotype analysis. Other responsibilities include arranging mice shipment and preparing amendments for Institutional Animals Use and Care use committee approval.
A basic understanding of genetics and experience with mice handling is highly desirable.
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
Moving mouse cages, handling mice, transporting mouse cages from room to room, updating databases, conducting dissections, pipetting, use of thermal cycler and imaging equipment.
Must be able to carry about 10 lbs. and stand and move around a room for a couple of hours at a time.
