The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Urology is seeking a full time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) to function as an advanced practice nurse and change agent incorporating the primary role of Nurse Practitioner in an outpatient care setting and the supporting roles of consultant, educator, researcher and administrator to support quality care and positive patient outcomes.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
• Exercises clinical competency and expertise in general urology with an emphasis on providing specialized care in the area of urologic oncology.
• Functions independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to evaluate, assess, diagnose, and treat urologic health conditions.
• Collaborates with nursing staff/nursing administration to monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care.
• Documents patient assessment and plan of care in the medical record and generate appropriate health reports for outgoing correspondence.
• Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes treatments to attain expected outcomes.
• Promotes health maintenance that spans the continuum of health from outpatient to inpatient settings and back to the home care arena.
• Performs medical diagnostic, therapeutic procedures, and prescribes, dispenses or delivers medication when a collaborative practice agreement is in place.
• Provides anticipatory guidance and counseling to patients/families.
• Initiates and coordinates referrals to other health care team members or agencies as needed.
• Serves in a consultative resource capacity to other divisions, the department, and the community as needed.
• Provides education and serves as a resource for nursing staff in area of clinical expertise.
• Provides education to external agencies, community and other health professionals.
• Participates in development and implementation of divisional and departmental quality assessment/improvement/research programs and processes.
• Assumes responsibility for administrative activities and special projects as assigned.
• Contributes toward the achievement of divisional and departmental goals as delegated.
• Participates and contributes to activities that enhance clinical expertise and nursing knowledge.
• Participates in professional nursing activities in the department, hospital, community and professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required
• Master's degree required. Master's degree in Nursing preferred. If Master's is in a related field, BA degree in Nursing is required. Completion of an approved adult Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Program required.
Experience Requirements
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Evidence of ability to function with a high degree of independence while actively collaborating with other health care team members.
• Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice.
Certification Requirements
• Current license to practice Nursing in Iowa or eligible. Current certification in a specialty area and licensure as an ARNP in Iowa or eligible.
Desirable Qualifications
• Previous patient care experience in Urology.
• 1-3 years experience in an outpatient care setting.
