Position Summary:
The Seasonal Educator will assist with events and programming at the Audubon Center at Riverlands, and at partner sites such as Little Creek Nature Area. They are an essential team member that supports planning and presenting quality programming to children and adults in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. They will be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with staff, volunteers, program participants, teachers, partners and community members. Key programs include Birds of Winter, a series of weekend programs between December and February. This position will also assist with environmental education programs and internships. They will also support self-guided engagement at the Audubon Center at Riverlands such as Story Book Walk, interpretive displays, Native Plant Gardens, signage and similar programming.
Compensation:
$18.00 / hour
Essential Functions
Provide program support in a team setting and at times work independently.
Participate in and attend scheduled meetings & trainings.
Learn and follow program safety protocols.
Assist in facilitating a variety of programs for children and adults.
Facilitate leadership and team building activities with students and interns.
Assist in event communications, planning and promotions.
Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities.
Assist in planning and implementing NEST programming.
Serve as a positive role model for all interns and students.
Show a genuine interest in interns, community members and students.
Partner with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in education, biology or related field.
0-2 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
Enjoy working with kids, teens, and the public.
Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions and temperatures.
Ability to work as a team member and leader.
Ability to be a positive and encouraging leader to students and interns who may be apprehensive or nervous about a particular activity.
Must have physical ability to lead and participate in activities, which include, but are not limited to, hiking, kayaking, team building initiatives, building campfires, physical games, and activities, with or without accommodation.
Must be reliable, punctual, and organized.
Maintain a positive, focused, and enthusiastic attitude.
Must be able to provide own transportation to Little Creek Nature Area and The Audubon Center at Riverlands.
