Subject Matter Expert - Model & Simulation

Responsibilities:

Netsimco is seeking a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the U.S. Navy and related defense programs. The SME will provide high-level expertise and leadership in developing, implementing, and analyzing advanced simulation models to optimize Navy operations, mission planning, and system development. The M&S SME will play a key role in leveraging state-of-the-art simulation tools and technologies to enhance decision-making, training, and operational readiness for naval forces.



  • M&S Development and Integration:

    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex simulation models, focusing on naval systems, platforms, and missions.

    • Develop detailed simulations to support training, wargaming, mission rehearsal, systems analysis, and operational planning.

    • Ensure integration of M&S tools with existing Navy systems and platforms, ensuring interoperability and system validation.

    • Utilize live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) environments to support Navy training and operations.




  • Analysis and Reporting:

    • Provide expert-level analysis and evaluation of simulation results to assess system performance, mission effectiveness, and capability gaps.

    • Develop technical reports, white papers, and presentations to communicate findings, recommendations, and best practices to stakeholders, including senior Navy leadership.

    • Advise on emerging M&S technologies and best practices to continuously improve Navy readiness and operational efficiency.




  • Collaboration and Consultation:

    • Work closely with Navy program managers, engineers, analysts, and other SMEs to provide consultation and recommendations on M&S strategies.

    • Engage with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders (including contractors, defense labs, and academia) to collaborate on simulation initiatives.

    • Provide technical leadership in workshops, conferences, and working groups relevant to M&S and Navy-specific mission areas.




  • Training and Mentorship:

    • Develop and deliver training programs for Navy personnel on the use and implementation of M&S tools and methodologies.

    • Mentor junior engineers and M&S professionals to build in-house expertise in simulation technologies and Navy applications.




  • Compliance and Documentation:

    • Ensure that all M&S efforts are compliant with DoD/Navy policies, guidelines, and security protocols, including DoD Instruction 5000.59 and Navy M&S policies.

    • Maintain and update documentation for M&S projects, including simulation requirements, design documents, test plans, and technical reviews.




Requirements:


  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field. A Master's degree or PhD is preferred.



  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in modeling and simulation within the defense sector, particularly with the Navy or other military branches.

    • Strong understanding of naval systems, warfare domains, and operational environments.

    • Experience with M&S software such as MATLAB, Simulink, AFSIM, STK, JSAF, OneSAF, or other defense simulation tools.

    • Proven track record in leading M&S projects from concept through delivery.




  • Skills and Competencies:

    • In-depth knowledge of M&S principles, LVC environments, and digital twin technologies.

    • Proficiency in data analysis, statistical modeling, and system optimization techniques.

    • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights.

    • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate technical details to non-technical stakeholders.

    • Familiarity with DoD architecture frameworks (DoDAF) and Navy operational processes.




  • Clearance:
    • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance required, with the ability to maintain eligibility throughout employment.
