SUMMAR

The Assistant Principal serves as the instructional leader and assists with instructional program, the supervisor of faculty, and the operation of the school site. The Assistant Principal, in conjunction with the Principal, is empowered to assist with the operation of the school, discipline students when necessary, and coach, develop and mentor teachers and staff.

The Assistant Principal of Instruction's primary role is to work with teachers to lead best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need. As a leader to teachers and members of the Instructional Leadership Team, the Instructional Specialist is responsible for four main areas: a) observing instructional delivery and providing feedback to enhance and support the development of each teacher's content area b) supporting teachers in the design of units and lessons for the development of their year-long curriculum, c) analyzing data in order to modify curriculum and forms of assessment to meet students; needs and d) working with the academic staff (grade-level chairs, Specialists, and Principal) in the school to support the sharing of best practices.

They will work collaboratively with the admin team and teachers on developing instructional strategies and intervention programs for struggling students. The person in this position will be responsible for all aspects of conceptualizing, forming, organizing, and managing the launch and growth of the instructional program at the assigned ICEF schools.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead the development of high-quality/effective instruction at the school site; observe and coach teachers to improve instructional planning, teaching practice, and the use of data, assessment, and instructional technology
  • Work with Academic Team Members, school site admin team, Specialists, and teachers to refine and develop common, standards-based instructional guides, and beginning, mid-year, and end of year common assessments for various grade levels/content areas
  • Work with various teams (administrators, teachers, Academic Team members) to facilitate analysis of data provided by ICEF Common Assessments and in-class formative assessment
  • Support teacher teams in developing both school-wide and classroom intervention plans
  • Work with CMO and school administrators to develop policies and school structures that facilitate the improvement of instruction and the appropriate interventions and supports for students
  • Support and deliver guidance on literacy using 21st Century learning techniques and the transition to the Common Core Standards
  • Continuously monitor, track and analyze student achievement data in order to identify needed supports and strategies
  • Provide leadership for, and facilitate collaboration with all stakeholders on identifying goals for student achievement; assess progress towards meeting goals; collaboratively develop the school's Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and measure the outcome of goals
  • Serve as the Testing Coordinator
  • Participate in ICEF Professional Development, and provide effective professional development and training when necessary
  • Supervise Instructional Aides
  • Available for contact with parents, students, and staff to discuss student issues/concerns after class, at night, or on weekends (via cell phone or in-person)
  • Maintain work hours extending beyond school hours for other professional duties or functions such as staff meetings, school events, Saturday School, Parent Information Meetings, etc. when necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENT

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's Degree (required), Master's Degree (preferred)
  • Hold a valid, Clear California Multiple Subject or Single Subject Teaching Credential, or Pupil Personnel Services Credential (or an equivalent out-of-state credential which is transferrable to California)
  • Hold a valid, California Administrative Credential
  • Experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and delivering professional development
  • Significant experience with developing school-wide systems/procedures and driving initiatives with staff
  • A deep understanding of PBIS, restorative and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to leverage data to make data-driven decisions
  • At least 5 years of teaching/counseling experience in an urban school setting, serving low income and minority students, at multiple grade levels.
  • Experience coaching, leading and supporting teachers
  • Strong record of helping students achieve academic success, primarily with minority and low-income students
  • Excellence in time management, taking initiative, and follow-through
  • Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify instructional practices
  • Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful, and willing to do whatever it takes to help our students reach a level of academic excellence

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • A valid CA Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject teaching credential or PPS credential in School Counseling (or an equivalent out-of-state credential which is transferrable to California).
  • A valid CA Administrative credential/ Certificate of Eligibility (or an equivalent out-of-state credential which is transferable to California), or are in the process of obtaining one.
