Position Summary: The IT/OT Process Engineer plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between operations and IT, ensuring the seamless integration and optimization of production processes through technology. This role collaborates closely with both IT and operations teams to ensure that production systems, equipment, and IT infrastructure are aligned, driving efficiency, digitalization, and automation. The IT/OT Process Engineer leads initiatives to improve production processes through IT systems while ensuring smooth communication between operational technologies (OT) and IT infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as a bridge between the IT and operations teams, translating operational needs into IT solutions and ensuring smooth communication and collaboration between both sides.
Work closely with both departments to identify areas for improvement, implementing technology-driven solutions that optimize production processes and workflows.
Partner with global and local IT teams to align production systems with Lenze's overall IT strategy, ensuring consistency while allowing for local operational flexibility.
IT and OT Integration
Collaborate with the IT department to integrate operational technologies (OT) such as Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and other production tools with the existing IT infrastructure.
Ensure seamless communication between production equipment, databases, and IT systems, optimizing machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and automation processes (OPC UA).
Lead the integration of IT and OT systems, ensuring security, reliability, and scalability in both production and IT environments.
Production Process Optimization and Automation
Work with operations and engineering teams to introduce automation and digitalization into production workflows, identifying bottlenecks and leveraging technology to increase efficiency and output.
Continuously assess production processes to identify opportunities for automation and process improvement, integrating innovative technologies where appropriate.
Maintain and optimize the performance of key production IT systems, including SAP ME, ERP, and related applications, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing operational effectiveness.
System Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Ensure the availability and reliability of IT systems that support production operations, including troubleshooting system failures, software issues, and network connectivity problems.
Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues that affect both IT and production, collaborating with IT teams and vendors to resolve critical system failures.
Proactively monitor production systems and networks to identify potential issues before they impact production, ensuring preventative measures are in place.
Project Management and Global Coordination
Lead cross-functional IT/OT projects aimed at improving production processes, including system upgrades, network enhancements, and new technology implementations.
Collaborate with global IT teams to coordinate system changes, upgrades, and rollouts, ensuring minimal impact on production activities and alignment with global standards.
Own the project proposal process for IT/OT projects, ensuring that all solutions meet both operational and IT objectives while maintaining global compliance.
Training and Support
Provide training and support to operations and production staff on the use of IT systems that interface with production, such as MES, ERP, and other manufacturing software.
Maintain up-to-date documentation for all IT/OT systems, ensuring consistent knowledge sharing and providing clear guidelines for troubleshooting and operational use
Qualifications Include:
5+ years of experience in a role that combines IT and OT, with a focus on integrating IT systems into a manufacturing or production environment.
Proficiency in IT systems (e.g., networks, databases, servers) and operational technologies (e.g., MES, ERP, machine automation).
Experience working cross-functionally, particularly between IT and operations, with a track record of leading collaborative projects.
Familiarity with IT/OT integration, including experience with machine-to-machine communication protocols such as OPC UA.
Strong problem-solving skills in troubleshooting complex systems across both IT and production environments.
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Able to work across departments to align business objectives with IT and operational goals.
Project management experience, with the ability to lead IT/OT integration and process optimization projects.
Experience with process automation and digitalization, focusing on improving production efficiency through technology.
