Job Title: Network Security Engineer - Infrastructure Team

Location: Hybrid // Remote & On-Site in Marlborough, MA

Job Type: Full-Time Hours (**Contract-to-hire**)

Are you a seasoned Network Security Engineer looking for a dynamic IT infrastructure and security role?

We're seeking a highly skilled professional to join our Infrastructure Team, where you'll play a critical role in the administration, automation, and maintenance of our network and security systems. This is a hands-on technical position, offering the opportunity to drive the success of IT operations and contribute to the organization's overall technology strategy. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead Networking Initiatives: Serve as the networking lead for the Security Operations Center (SOC) and infrastructure team.
  • Security Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor and maintain the organization's perimeter and endpoint security, ensuring robust defenses against threats.
  • Networking Equipment Management: Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, IPS, WAF, load balancers, and other networking devices.
  • Troubleshoot Network Issues: Support complex network and infrastructure issues, ensuring optimal performance and capacity.
  • Server Management: Troubleshoot, manage, and provision Windows Servers (2016/2022) in physical and virtualized environments.
  • Upgrades and Patch Management: Plan and implement upgrades, patches, and security updates for applications and infrastructure equipment.
  • Proactive Monitoring: Use monitoring tools and checklists to ensure network infrastructure meets business needs, identifying and addressing potential issues before they escalate.
  • Outage Minimization: Troubleshoot system failures quickly to minimize service interruptions, providing root cause analysis for any outages.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Communicate and collaborate with internal and external technology teams to resolve issues and implement solutions.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in a monthly on-call rotation (1-week per month) to provide support during critical times.

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in network administration with Cisco hardware (switches, firewalls, routers).
  • Strong expertise in supporting LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, IPSEC tunnels, MPLS WAN, EPL WAN, and routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.
  • Proven experience in building and administering Cisco ASA firewalls and F5 Load Balancers.
  • Expertise in maintaining and supporting Cisco Firepower and F5 ASM (WAF).
  • Experience with SIEM platforms like Splunk for monitoring network and system logs.
  • Hands-on experience with threat detection, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and other security-related tasks.

Additional Qualifications (3+ years of experience):
  • Microsoft-based infrastructure support: Windows Servers, Active Directory, SQL, IIS, and File Services.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, particularly VMware vSphere and Nutanix AHV.
  • Knowledge of security management for users, roles, and security groups.
  • Familiarity with end-user remote access solutions like VPN, SSL VPN, and Citrix.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA or CCNP are highly desired.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Skills:
  • Experience working in highly regulated healthcare, finance, or insurance environments.
  • Exposure to cloud VoIP solutions and other cloud-based technologies.
  • Familiarity with NIST 800-53 compliance frameworks, ISO27001, HITRUST, MARS-E, and SSAE16/18.
