About the Role
Do you get excited about working with plants? Finding new ways to get the best results? Are you detail oriented, enthusiastic and self motivated? If so, we would like to talk to you about joining our team! Most of your time will be spent in the propagation facility, working directly with the production manager and owner, you will also help oversee the greenhouse team, driving performance and ensuring production of exceptional plants. Approximately two thirds of your time will be spent in propagation and one third caring for young plant liners in our state of the art greenhouse facility.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and coordinate greenhouse staff
Oversee propagation facility as well as participate in taking and sticking of cuttings
Supervise and also have a hands on approach to meeting the crop production goals of the company
Administrative duties to include data entry and input of work orders into an ACCESS based Production program
Monitor and adjust SEED greenhouse controls; Prop house boom system, bench heat, exhaust fans, sensors, roof vents, etc.
Have the ability to obtain (or already possess) a CT pesticide applicators license
Monitor and scout for pests
Be able to generate and execute spray work orders, manage biological control program
Evaluate and care for liners, to include watering, weeding, and trimming
Monitor pH and EC levels of Liners and Greenhouse grown Herbs and Perennials, taking corrective actions as necessary
Apply liquid feed to Greenhouse crops as necessary
Order supplies as needed; Soil, trays, etc.
Safely use tools and equipment
Ability (or willingness to learn) to drive a tractor
Qualifications
3-5 years experience in propagation or a degree in Horticulture
Have excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Ability to listen, ask good questions, and develop trust and respect in all professional relationships
Have good prioritization, planning and skillful execution of goals
Possess strong computer skills, including databases, Google Workspace and Excel
Must live within commuting distance of Canterbury, CT or be willing to relocate
Experience with container nursery/perennial production is preferred
