Under the direction of the Sr. Manager of Automation Engineering, the Automation Engineer is responsible for developing models for the Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) and Process Control Systems (PCS) applications for semiconductor equipment using third party software, and creating IIoT gateway infrastructure of integrating various sensors and transducers into semiconductor tools to extract digital or analog sensor data by connecting to PLC controllers or directly to system circuitry. This position is located in Milpitas, California.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Develops and delivers FDC models and PCS applications for semiconductor equipment using third party software
Designs and develops bridging software applications between electrical systems and local or cloud IIoT/FDC servers based on various communication protocols supported by hardware, such as SECS/GEM, Modbus, OPC, OPC UA, DeviceNet, and Profibus
Collects, analyzes, validates, and creates reports using various types of data sources; presents findings to other engineers and production teams
Partners with MIS regarding the purchases of equipment and software; meets with vendors and assists with the implementation and validation of new systems
Administers and maintains ARTIST system, including Oracle DB, ARTIST application servers, and outstanding upload/parse systems
Monitors and maintains the FDC system; recommends processes or procedures for optimizing the system and improving functionality
Uses statistical modeling, data analysis, simulations, and algorithms to resolve complex automation issues
Partners with equipment, manufacturing, process, and QA engineering groups to develop models for equipment performance and wafer yield improvement
Develops and delivers reporting schemes and process solutions to ensure rapid response time for resolving equipment issues
Responds to inquiries from other engineering groups regarding automation-related issues and product or device requirements
Adheres to all safety policies and procedures as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering; Master's degree preferred
Three years of experience software or hardware modeling, simulation or algorithms
Must be proficient in Java, Python and have experience with C#, C++, Windows/Linux OS, MS Office, Oracle/SQL databases, computer networking, and shell scripting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of various communication protocols and electronic hardware
Knowledge of SEMI standards, GEM/SECS interfaces, logic design, semiconductor fabrication processes, time series data analysis, and statistical quality control
Knowledge of semiconductor industry principles, practices, and techniques
Knowledge of FDC systems and PCS applications as they relate to manufacturing equipment systems
Knowledge of electric systems, circuit design, and software development
Able to analyze data, create various reports, and recommend corrective action
Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of contractors, consultants, employees, and management
Able to work independently, productively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management
Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures

The annual base salary for this full-time position is between $96,655.20-$142,140.00 + bonus target + benefits. Within the range the individual pay may differ depending on additional factors including job responsibilities, job related knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience. The annual base pay range shown is subject to change and may be modified periodically.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Automation Engineer works primarily in an office environment Monday to Friday. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. May occasionally work in a class 100 ESD sensitive wafer manufacturing facility; wears a cleanroom (bunny) suit, including hood, gloves, safety glasses, booties, and mask. Stands and walks; performs various fine grasping movements, bends, and twists; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment. May occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 10 pounds.
