The lab is responsible for applying advanced analytical technologies to the characterization of materials used in consumer products and to join the Material Science and Characterization Lab
Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science or related discipline
The lab is part of a Failure Analysis Team, which provides failure analysis services to resolve reliability, manufacturing, and material design issues.
Hands-on operation of FTIR, GC-MS, IC-MS, TGA, and DSC to collect data on the composition of polymers, contaminants in materials, outgassing from adhesives/inks, etc., to aid in Failure analysis investigations.
Hands-on preparation of samples for all above mentioned techniques. Samples include polymers, adhesives, multi-layered composites, small particulate debris, contamination, discoloration, etc.
Utilization of Microscopy techniques, such as optical microscopy, to characterize sample structures and morphology.
Ability and aptitude to work with and manipulate small objects while viewing under a microscope.
Highly effective communication skills including ability to seek out direction, ask clarifying questions, communicate findings, and accept feedback.
