Milestone is seeking a Data Center Storage Engineer L3 with strong communications, problem-solving and technical skills to help with day-to-day hardware deployment and repair systems operations. As part of the Infrastructure Data Storage management team, you will work onsite in our Bluffdale Utah based local data center, Monday through Friday 7a to 4p local time. You will interface directly with the data center operations team to provide post-hardware repair support and ensure that hardware is validated and returned to the production fleet. As an autonomous, proactive individual, you will be required to take initiative and demonstrate leadership, representing the Infrastructure and Shared Services (ISS) team in the data center.
How You Will Make an Impact:
Managing your Jira ticket queue, troubleshooting hardware failure issues, applying appropriate repair steps, and validating hardware to send them back out to the production fleet
Communicate extensively with datacenter operations teams working hand in hand resolving hardware issues
Deploying, troubleshooting, repairing, and ensuring the server fleet is operating at its maximum capacity
Proactively monitor data storage utilization, I/O capacities and alerts
Create and maintain monitors for existing data stores
Participate in business hours on-call for storage related alerts and escalations
Perform code reviews for bugs; identify code related problems in automated validation processes; implement resolutions where feasible and creating tickets (ServiceNOW and Jira)
Maintain and contribute technical documentation, troubleshooting manuals and run books to an internal wiki
Continuously review, learn, and understand internal services and tools that apply to our IT workflows
Provide mentoring and training when necessary to DC Operations teams
Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
What you will need to Succeed:
Computer Science, Computer Hardware Engineering education, or minimum 3 years in the industry
Ability to explain complicated hardware issues, hardware configurations and BIOS configurations
Experience scripting with Python or Ansible programing
Familiarity with automated booting in a linux environment
Familiarity with automation tools (i.e. Jenkins, Docker, etc)
Strong hands-on working knowledge of Linux
Working knowledge of Windows administration
Understanding of networking, storage, and server hardware infrastructure
Familiar experience with hardware from vendors like Hitachi, NetApp, Pure Storage, Arista Cisco, Brocade, and Supermicro
Familiarity with Google Suite
Familiarity with VMWare/ESXi
Problem-solving skills, especially related to server, storage, and network hardware
Proven experience as a Linux Sysadmin
Proven experience in a Data Center
Familiarity with Network Fibre Channel, iSCSI, VLANs, NFS, Port Channel Groups
Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented and a well-organized self-starter
Ability to take ownership of issues that arise from various hardware and software problems and follow them to resolution
Knowledge of computer applications preferably with Slack, Teams, Jira, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office Products
Able to safely lift and move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Able to work onsite in our Utah based local datacenter, Monday through Friday 7a to 4p local time
Preferred Qualifications:
Competent knowledge of Pure Storage products such as Flash Array and Flash Blade
