Position Summary: The Health Underwriting Manager is responsible for assessing medical risk for a PEO sponsored medical plan. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination. Utilizes underwriting policies and guidelines, rating rules and carrier regulations to appropriately price medical risk. Co-manages multiple books of business to ensure competitive landscape for new business sales as well as risk mitigation on existing clients.
Position Responsibilities:
Works with Sales and support teams to ensure all collateral required for quoting is received. Must be able to quickly and clearly explain/request missing items or discrepancies with submission.
Develop judgment to assess new business for master medical plans as needed while working with senior underwriters or management, to ensure a profitable book of business.
Updates all underwriting systems as appropriate.
Provides underwriting knowledge sharing and education to peers and/or members of the sales team.
Review and become familiar with plan offerings, internal relationships, underwriting and team guidelines, processes, and procedures, company business strategy and organization.
Must be detail-oriented, but also able to switch quickly from task to task as needed. Must be proficient in using several systems/programs at once.
Works closely with outside vendors to ensure our technology and quoting engines are updated annually with the appropriate information for new business quoting.
Assists SVP with all projects including technology development, marketing initiatives, and Open Enrollment projects.
Assists SVP with any Division Partner transition, works with the medical/ancillary carrier to establish guidelines, and evaluates product portfolios to ensure competitive landscape for new business sales.
Provides support and supervision of the Health Underwriters and Sr. Health Underwriters.
Makes complex decisions and handles escalations for both the Health Underwriters and Sr. Health Underwriters.
Spearheads multiple projects assigned by the SVP of the Health Underwriting Department.
Steps in as a backup to the SVP during their PTO or extended leave.

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma required, Bachelors degree preferred or comparable experience.
Medical benefits experience preferred
Insurance carrier underwriting experience preferred 6+ years.
PEO underwriting experience preferred 6+ years.
Familiarity with office environment?.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
