We are seeking a Senior Civil Estimator with exceptional prioritization, organization, and communication skills. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure and can meet tight deadlines across multiple concurrent projects. This role involves creating precise and trustworthy estimates throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concepts to Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) or hard bid submissions.
Responsibilities:
Develop and oversee estimates for various projects, guiding them from initial concepts to GMP or hard bid stages.
Lead and manage estimating teams to ensure the production of accurate estimates.
Communicate effectively to manage the expectations of estimating teams.
Distribute workloads and assignments among estimators to ensure timely project delivery.
Collaborate with clients and design teams throughout the estimating process.
Lead and engage in detailed quantity take-offs and comprehensive estimates.
Create strategies to achieve small business objectives as needed.
Ensure consistency by coordinating the completion of all client deliverables related to estimates.
Work with operations teams to align estimates and assumptions with project specifications.
Identify appropriate trade contractors and curate subcontractor lists for budgets, bids, and Requests for Proposals (RFPs).
Develop bid tabulations and indirect cost estimates/proposals for General Conditions, Requirements, Fees, Permits, and other aspects for negotiated and hard bid projects.
Exhibit proficiency in reviewing trade scopes and identifying potential high-risk issues within projects.
Collaboratively devise cost strategies to align with client budgetary needs.
Mentor and cultivate the skills of junior estimators.
Support preconstruction activities across multiple office locations.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction or mining.
Experience in heavy industrial or mechanical installations (e.g., crushers, conveyors, pump stations, structural concrete) is advantageous.
A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are mandatory, in accordance with company standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
Familiarity with CSI, MasterFormat, and Uniformat.
Strong understanding of heavy civil construction methodologies and equipment selection.
Experience in generating estimates for self-performed work, including mass excavation, underground utilities, clearing and grubbing, and rock crushing and screening.
Demonstrated experience in progressively responsible roles in commercial construction estimating.
Knowledge of estimating software such as Building Connected, Agtek, and B2W is a plus.
Strong skills in hard bid estimating and/or conceptual estimating.
Ability to independently develop comprehensive estimates.
Willingness to participate in job walks and pre-bid meetings.
Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
Analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Self-motivated and proactive in addressing challenges, with a strong commitment to quality and efficiency.
A collaborative team player who can also work independently to meet deadlines and objectives.
Must be able to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and occasionally lift 10+ pounds.
