The Senior Building Construction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for food manufacturing and logistics construction projects. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documentation to determine project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and other related expenses. The Senior Construction Estimator collaborates closely with project executives, junior estimators, project managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure the successful financial planning and execution of projects.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate scope descriptions with cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing plans, specifications, and other documentation. Estimate costs related to labor, materials, equipment, and other project expenses.
Bid Preparation: Develop competitive bid proposals by assessing and pricing all project components. Ensure all bids comply with company standards and client requirements.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates. Develop contingency plans and recommend strategies to mitigate risks.
Alternate Assessment: Identify potential alternates and options in project estimates. Develop alternate scope options and recommend design changes to implement alternates.
Vendor & Subcontractor Management: Solicit and review bids from vendors and subcontractors. Evaluate their pricing, scope, and qualifications to ensure alignment with estimate and project requirements.
Budget Management: Collaborate with the project management team to review project specifications and design changes and assess their impact on budgets. Provide input on cost control measures and track cost performance throughout the project lifecycle.
Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to understand project needs, present cost estimates, alternates, and provide clarifications as required. Ensure client satisfaction by delivering accurate and timely estimates.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation. Maintain and document estimate database updates. Prepare regular reports on estimating activities, including cost analysis and forecasting.
Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and changes in construction materials, labor costs, and technology that could impact project costs.
Team Leadership: Mentor and provide guidance to junior estimators and support staff. Foster a collaborative team environment and promote continuous improvement in estimating processes.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst (highly desired), Timberline, etc.), Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), and familiarity with project management software (Procore a plus). Database management.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make accurate estimates.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to effectively present information to clients, stakeholders, and team members.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work.
Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
Education/Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a strong background in estimating for commercial and/or industrial projects.
Certifications: Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or equivalent are preferred.
Travel Requirements:
Flexibility to travel on short notice for urgent business needs, to attend meetings, trainings, and events.
Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance during business trips.
