Reporting to the OPEX and Innovation Lead, the Continuous Improvement Engineer supports the development of the Site's Continuous Improvement culture at the Site. Using knowledge of engineering methodologies, tools, and data analysis, this position will be responsible to identify cost savings and waste reduction opportunities. The role interfaces with employees at all levels and various functions across the business and within the manufacturing facility.
Role
Collects data and performs statistical analysis. Maps and documents processes. Independently identifies process gaps; recommends and implements process improvements. Works on complex problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Develops a thorough, effective, and timely continuous improvement plan to address the top business needs at the Manufacturing Site. Drives process improvement activities to achieve significant improvements in the key business metrics of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
Develops advanced competency in a wide range of engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards. Coaches employees in the use and implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, & Lean principles. Applies engineering methodologies/tools such as studying labor standards (time studies), layouts and optimization of flow, data profiling and analysis. Provides regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against the site objectives.
Effectively facilitates and executes Value Stream Mapping & Kaizen Events through all stages. Independently identifies process gap; recommends and implements process improvements. Coaches process owners on how to use engineering methods to achieve operational excellence.
Completes event planning, performs pre-work, facilitates team collaboration, and supports events (including start-ups, expansion & closure). Follows-up on events and audits compliance of lean plan implementation to prevent backsliding. Supports continuous improvement deployment using fundamentals of lean (standard work, visual management, 5S, continuous flow). Completes CI projects that lead to improved business results. Assesses CI initiatives and provides input and recommendations on future activities.
Measures Capital project deliverables against results for all cost savings initiatives.
Partners with engineers, technicians, production managers, and business personnel to review, improve, and develop processes that support products in development and production environments.
Utilizes Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, and IDOV tools including process mapping, Kaizen, 3P, etc. to improve throughput, and reduce defects and waste.
Works with stakeholders to develop and improve integrated business and operational processes.
Mentors and trains employees at all levels on process improvement. This will include development and presentation of training materials.
Professional Profile
Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Business, or minimum of 4 years relevant work experience.
Minimum of four years of related experience in manufacturing is required.
Certification or ability to demonstrate strong skills in Lean, Statistical Analysis, developing and leading Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems and Management Accountability Systems, Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), and Kaizen Facilitation.
Other Lean, TPM, Minitab, Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
Continuous improvement mentality and ability to drive change within an established business.
Ability to independently collect and analyze data for optimization opportunities.
Strong customer facing presence and ability to clearly articulate savings opportunities with stakeholders.
