Position Description
The Purchaser will manage non-wood procurement for Mercer Mass Timber, including sourcing materials and services, evaluating bids, and onboarding vendors. Cost management and providing training and support to the team is crucial.
Mercer Mass Timber supplies materials and services to the construction industry, offering project solutions and materials tailored to each project. The Purchaser will collaborate closely with the project teams on bid execution and project cost accounting.
This role reports to Mercer International's VP Procurement, with a dotted line to Mercer Spokane's General Manager. Regular meetings with global procurement and project execution teams are essential.
Responsibilities
Align procurement processes and systems: Bridge between SAP (used in our Spokane facility) and EPICOR (Used in our Conway/Okanagan Falls facilities) and support SAP rollout in 2025 to replace EPICOR.
Support projects and operations: Provide cost estimates for project bids, service project execution teams with required materials, and ensure project material costs stay within budget.
Leadership and team development: Provide leadership and coaching to the mill personnel in all procurement matters.
Supplier relationships: Lead vendor negotiations, manage supplier relationships, monitor market trends, and adjust purchasing strategies accordingly.
Collaboration across teams and sites: Work with Master Schedulers, Inventory Specialists, and the Global Procurement team to optimize inventory, supply chain, and procurement processes.
Training and process improvement: Optimize the use of SAP in Procurement, develop purchasing KPIs, and provide ongoing purchasing training to improve processes.
Qualifications and Experience
Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, or related field, with 3+ years of experience in purchasing within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated leadership ability and experience working both independently and collaboratively with teams.
Procurement & Supply Chain Expertise: Strong knowledge of procurement best practices, project procurement, and supply chain risk management; SCMP designation or equivalent is preferred.
Analytical & Communication Skills: Proven analytical skills with KPI accountability, along with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
Familiarity with Standards: Knowledge of ISO 14001 and 9001 quality standards is advantageous.
Salary & Benefits
The annual salary for this position is $75,000 - 80,000. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
