Running Start Program Specialist

Reports to: Director of Running Start


Olympic College is seeking to hire a full-time classified Program Specialist 2 within our Running Start Division. This position supports the mission of Olympic College by acting as a liaison and providing consultation to participants in the Running Start program. This position provides excellent customer service and high qualify support to prospective and enrolled Running Start students providing quality education and support so that they can reach their educational goals.

Essential Functions


  • Provides information and technical assistance to program participants, staff and outside entities regarding program content, policies and activities and recommends alternative courses of action; promotes the program with outside organizations and resources;

  • Attends meetings and/or conferences as the program representative; develops and makes public presentations on program related topics;

  • Confers regularly with staff and outside entities regarding the interpretation and implementation of program policies; participates in establishing program standards and identifying areas for program development;

  • Serve as primary initial phone and email contact for Running Start program participants and the public.

  • Supervise, train, mentor and schedule front office staff and part-time students.

  • Assist students with registration and resolving problems, evaluating alternatives, and determining other options.

  • Recruits, screens and places program volunteers and resources;

  • Monitors program activities in relation to established program goals; within established program parameters, determines variances from program standards;

  • Prepares training and promotional materials, provides training and certification to program participants;

  • Analyzes program participants' operations and performance to program policies, procedures, practices and conformance with rules and regulations; provides assistance, counseling and/or instruction as needed;

  • Run reports and queries and record statistical data, i.e. weekly enrollment figures, annual graduation reports and other data as requested.

  • Directs the work of others and/or coordinates services of program volunteers;

  • May supervise lower level staff.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Excellent customer service skills


  • Desired Qualifications


  • Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet, database and publishing software experience.

    Terms of EmploymentThis is a full-time position classified position scheduled to work 40 hours per week. The starting salary is $43,716 with periodic increases and earning potential to $56,676 annually. Olympic College provides an excellent benefits package which includes vacation, holiday & sick leave, medical/dental/vision/life insurance. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA). *Most candidates will be hired at the beginning of the assigned salary range and advance after 6-months of continuous employment and every year following, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
