This position will serve as Fiscal Officer and HR approver for the University Research Organization (URO). The URO manages approximately 50 grant accounts that contain additional restrictions and require oversight to ensure regulatory compliance. The Research Administrator III/S will be responsible for all post award administration and services, including serving as the liaison between Contract & Grant Administration and the principal investigator, ensuring regulatory compliance working with Export Controls and the associated restrictions, coordinate monthly and annual reporting processes, works with academic units to ensure all administrative offices are aware of the award status. Financial duties include; serving as fiscal officer and ensuring all transactions have sufficient funding, documentation and justification, coordinate the processing of cost share entries and effort reporting, monitors and coordinates ongoing financials and budgets for accuracy, advises on project projections and timelines, reviews award budget status with investigators frequently, reviews contracts and financial reports, assists with budget amendments, no cost extensions and other modifications as needed, prepares and submits transactions for the awards, follows up on expense issues with appropriate project personnel, ensures all human resource appointments are allowable and within the grant guidelines, manages project account closeout activities and confirms submission of final reports. This position will need to have the ability to work independently and collaboratively in addition to exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Minimum RequirementsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business administration, Finance, or a research-related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in research administration including the area of pre or post award processes, or related field such as regulatory administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This job requires Essentials of Research Administration at MSU Certificate series or equivalent.
Desired QualificationsAbility to carry out job responsibilities with minimal supervision, determining priorities to meet deadlines, making independent decisions as necessary to serve the functional objectives of the unit. Must have excellent and effective communication and critical thinking skills to accomplish independent decision making, effective time management skills. Demonstrate participation in programs designed to promote inclusion and multicultural perspectives. Prior work experience in an academic unit and experience in KC, EBS and SAP.
