The College of Education and School of Teaching and Learning at Sam Houston State University invites applications to the Eleanor and Charles Garrett Endowed Chair for Special Education position. We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual who can inspire and mentor future and current educators. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in special education research, teaching, and service. The ideal candidate will have the desire and ability to contribute to new and existing programs. This position can begin Spring 2025 or Fall 2025.
Ph.D/Ed.D in Special Education or related field.
The candidate must have a record of scholarly achievement that merits appointment as an associate or full professor, such as evidence of publishing peer-reviewed articles in special education or a related field. The candidate must have a minimum of three years prior experience working with and supporting individuals with disabilities and/or experience teaching in special education. The candidate must have experience in university teaching and serving in leadership roles in higher education, such as department chair, program coordination, or other similar experiences. Expertise and experience from all areas of special education are encouraged to apply.
Preferred qualifications include:
Established record of mentoring students and faculty;Experience developing and teaching a variety of Special Education courses across modalities;Evidence of service to departmental, college, and university committees;Leadership in professional organizations at local and national/international levels;Evidence of purposeful university outreach and fostering productive relationships with local community members and organizations;Record of scholarly productivity and evidence of established research agenda;Record of securing external funding; andDemonstrated record of teaching excellence at the university level.
The special education program offers undergraduate courses and two master's degrees, Master of Education in Special Education and Master of Arts in Special Education. The Department offers a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a Special Education track. The School of Teaching and Learning offers courses on the main campus, at The Woodlands Center, and online.
