Description

Maintain physical security of the campus through installation and repair of traditional locking hardware and electronic access devices. Develop, implement, and maintain keying systems and electronic access systems to further enhance the physical security of the campus. Work with Facilities, Planning and Operations (FPO) and contractors to ensure University hardware standards are met on all projects and major construction or renovations to include electronic access.

Examples of Duties

  • Install, repair, and program electronic access devices. Develop, implement, and maintain electronic key control system. Cut keys by code, duplication, or fabrication method. Issue keys to customers, answer inquiries, provide informative training to new University employees, and other
  • customer assistance. Maintain an inventory of key blanks, locksets, and other materials of the trade.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain record system for job order requests. Receive and complete lock re-core requests. Re-key locks, ensuring the physical security of the University.
  • Decode, implement, and maintain key systems and coded keying systems.

  • Install and repair mechanical locks and panic devices. Drill and prepare doors and frames for lock installation.
  • Maintain and program electronic access points to include scheduling opening and closing times of buildings.
  • Maintain proficiency in traditional mechanical locks and electronic access systems by attending training to stay up to date on the latest trends and equipment available to provide the best security possible for campus.

  • Support office manager by greeting and assisting all customers reporting locking problems either in person, by telephone or email. Retrieve and respond to voicemail and email messages. Respond to inquiries concerning University key policy and procedure. Assist with the issuance and return of university keys and fobs.

  • Decode, implement, and maintain key systems and coded keying systems.

Typical Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, Formal training (specify), Education/Experience substitution (specify)
  • Electronic Access Training preferred.
  • Education may be substituted for experience or if experience may be substituted for education. Note that equivalencies are based on the following: AA = 2 years experience; BA/BS = 4 years experience; MA/MS = 6 years experience.
Experience:
  • Three years locksmithing experience.
  • One year locksmithing experience plus locksmith certification may substitute for the above requirement.
  • Electronic Access experience required.
  • One year of computer experience preferred.
