The Education Department at Colby College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor of education position, beginning September 1, 2025.
We seek a teacher-scholar (with Ph.D./Ed.D. in hand) with expertise in human development and learning to teach the following four courses: 1) an intermediate course that explores foundational concepts in child and adolescent development with specific implications for educational settings; 2) an advanced course on key cognitive, motivational, and/or socioemotional processes that support active engagement in learning; 3) two additional courses that provide perspectives on human development or how young people learn, what factors influence variation in learning and developmental pathways, or the role of learning environments.
We seek candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the department through their teaching, scholarship, and mentorship. We are looking for candidates who can work with us to engage and support students from different cultural, demographic, and socio-economic backgrounds and especially encourage applications from underrepresented groups.

The successful candidate will be familiar with the liberal arts context, possess college-level teaching experience, and have an active research program that can interest and engage undergraduate students. The Education Program consists of four faculty members committed to critical youth development and promoting social justice in schools and society at large. We offer a major and minor in Educational Studies, and we offer Maine State Teacher Certification at the secondary level.
