Job Description:


The ideal candidate for Traffic Control Foreman will devise Traffic Control Plans for all projects where necessary; supervise and direct assigned crew in their activities to prepare, install, monitor, and remove traffic control devices; ensure Traffic Control Plans are efficiently and safely implemented and executed; and provide constructive coaching and instruction to crews. Daily communication with Superintendents, Foremen, and outside agents will be required.

  • Perform all duties within the guidelines set forth in the Employee Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Monitor governing Code & Regulation agency updates (DOT, MUTCD, etc.) regularly
  • Create an atmosphere whereby all subordinates are encouraged to improve their skills and maintain a high level of moral for themselves and other employees.
  • See that crew starts working on time and ensure that they work the number of hours for which they are assigned and paid.
  • Assist and direct assigned crew in the following areas: Using equipment in a safe and proper manner, improving job performance, controlling cost, improving quality of work, increasing productivity, improving communications, and housekeeping of projects.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of assigned personnel, instructing them in the proper operation, proper technique, use, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Traffic Control Foreman is responsible to see that all new personnel receive proper orientation to acquaint them with the company, policies, safety, and their job duties/responsibilities.
  • Participate in the periodic evaluation of all assigned personnel; discussing their contributions to the company, development, and possible pay adjustments.
  • Develop a cooperative working relationship with all operations and project managers, superintendents, and other foremen.
  • Cooperate with the Human Resources and Risk Management departments. Foreman must be knowledgeable as to all aspects of EEO and Safety. Position is required to comply with these requirements and insist upon compliance among all crew members.
  • Conduct a continuous evaluation of the following items: Cost and yields, material yields, plans and schedule salaries, promotions, job assignments, equipment needs, personnel needs, on-the-job training, program and job safety, security and crime prevention, and quality control. Foreman is required to related any problems or changes to the Operations Manager or Superintendent.
  • Ensure all work undertaken complies with all local laws and ordinances concerning construction and related activities.
  • Maintain close contact and a good working relationship with the general public, engineers, inspectors, and customers to facilitate job progress and promote a positive company image. Foreman must have and maintain a courteous and considerate disposition toward all groups stated.
  • Write, maintain, and turn in all required daily reports. Verify their correctness and transmit them promptly to the Operations Manager or Superintendent.
  • Logging important conversations, activities, and events are also required to be recorded for future reference.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to read, writing, add, and subtract of whole numbers increases the opportunity to be upgraded or trained in other skills in the company that do require such knowledge.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Certification through the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) or equivalent recognized authority.
  • Proven experience working as a flagger.
  • Sound knowledge of state traffic regulations.
  • The ability to stand for extended periods.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • The ability to work in harsh weather conditions.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional observation skills.
  • Effective communication skills.

EXPERIENCE:


Previous experience as a Traffic Control Foreman required; experience in developing, presenting, and executing Traffic Control Plans required.


INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:


Exercise judgment to comply with instructions or prescribed routines, methods or practices involved in the making of minor decisions within the limitations of standard methods and procedures.


PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:


Position requires the ability to climb, to grasp, to push and pull, to bend at the waist, to walk and stand for long periods of time and to lift up to 50 pounds. Position requires the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communications.


MENTAL AND / OR VISUAL DEMAND:


Continuous mental and visual attention required to avoid hazards and mistakes.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR EQUIPMENT:

  • Responsible for preventing damage to tools and equipment being used to perform and complete task assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring equipment pars are established and met for all Traffic Control Crews.

RESPONSIBILITY FOR MATERIAL:


Responsibly for preventing damage to materials worked with.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY OF OTHERS:


Normal care necessary to prevent injury to others, due to inherent hazard. Extraordinary care taken to ensure the safety of all Project Personnel and the public-at-large.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:


Responsible for supporting execution of duties by Traffic Control Crews.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Disagreeable working conditions with continuous exposure to dust, dirt, seasonal temperature variances, wet cement, with several elements continuously present to the extent of being objectionable.


HAZARDS: Death, Dismemberment, Breaks, Sprains, Lacerations, Struck-By, Caught-Between hazards present.
