Position Overview:
We are currently seeking an experienced, highly motivated Safety Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in ensuring all aspects of the asphalt manufacturing and construction process are executed safely and in compliance with company policies, client protocol, and regulatory agency requirements.
The ideal candidate will collaborate with all departments to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards. In addition, the candidate will develop, implement, and monitor safety policies, programs, and procedures as they relate to paving projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance:
Identify, meet, and maintain procedures which comply with company policies and regulatory agency mandates
Conduct safety audits and inspections to ensure crews are operating in compliance with internal and external policies and regulations
Investigate incidents and accidents to establish root causes and develop corrective actions
Maintain records and documentation for safety-related issues as required by company policy, insurance reporting, and regulatory entities
Conduct periodic reviews of all safety regulatory bodies (OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA) for updates and additions to policies, procedures, and regulations
Develop Safety Policies, Procedures, and Programs:
Collaborate with departments and crews to identify and mitigate safety hazards and concerns relevant to paving construction processes and procedures
Identify safety training needs and develop training programs
Design and deliver training materials to ensure department members, crews, and subcontractors (when necessary) are familiar with relevant safety topics
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs utilizing safety performance metrics
Ensure established safety protocols are implemented and maintained
Maintaining Presence: This position requires a boots-on-the-ground approach to development, implementation, monitoring, and ensuring compliance.
Ability to bend, climb, crouch, grasp, kneel, lift, stoop, etc.
Sit and stand for extended amounts of time
Lift, pull or push up to 50lbs
Visit and engage with personnel on company properties and job sites in all weather conditions
Exposure to company properties and job sites may include, but is not limited to: dust, dirt, vapors, fluids, machinery, high-decibel noise
On-call availability on selected nights/weekends to respond to incidents
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Safety Management, Construction Management, or related field is preferred; experience and knowledge may be considered a substitute
OSHA 500 Certification (Preferred)
ASP Certification (Preferred)
Comprehensive knowledge of construction safety regulatory agencies and compliance requirements
Proven experience in development, implementation, and monitoring of safety programs
Skilled in conducting audits and inspections, analyzing results and prescribing solutions
Strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
Proficiency utilizing computers, phones, and tablets in field and office settings
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and senior leadership.
Satisfactory MVR / Background
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
