Position Location: Liberty, SC (preferred)


Who the position reports to: VP of Personnel and Safety


Travel: This position requires up to 25% travel in South Carolina (Upstate, Midstate and Coastal regions) and North Carolina (Charolotte and Rock Hill areas).


Educational Background and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred but not required) in a relevant field such as:
    • Occupational Health and Safety
    • Environmental Health and Safety
    • Construction Management
  • Common Certifications include:
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
    • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
    • OSHA 500 Training Course

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of related experience in construction safety, typically in leadership role like Safety Director or Manager preferred.
  • Familiarity with Occupational and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, and local and federal safety regulations.
An Asphalt Construction Safety Director is responsible for ensuring that all safety protocols and regulations are strictly followed on construction sites where asphalt paving and related activities are taking place. This role involves overseeing the safety of workers, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with occupational safety regulations.

Position Summary:

The Asphalt Construction Safety Director leads and coordinates the safety program across all asphalt construction projects. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment. The role includes conducting training sessions, performing regular safety audits, and investigating any incidents or accidents on-site.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Safety Program Development & Implementation:
    • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures specific to asphalt construction.
    • Update and maintain the company's safety manual to reflect current regulations and best practices.
    • Establish and communicate safety goals and objectives for each project.
  • Training & Education:
    • Conduct safety training for employees, including orientation for new hires and ongoing training for existing staff.
    • Educate workers on the proper use of equipment, PPE (personal protective equipment), and emergency procedures.
    • Ensure all employees are aware of potential hazards on the job site and how to avoid them.
  • Site Inspections & Audits:
    • Perform regular inspections of job sites to ensure compliance with safety standards.
    • Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
    • Conduct safety audits and report findings to senior management, including corrective measures and timelines for implementation.
  • Incident Investigation & Reporting:
    • Lead investigations into any accidents or incidents on construction sites, determining the root cause and recommending corrective actions.
    • Prepare and maintain records of safety incidents, including OSHA logs and other required documentation.
    • Communicate findings and lessons learned from incidents to prevent future occurrences.
  • Compliance & Regulation:
    • Ensure all asphalt construction projects comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA standards.
    • Stay current on changes to safety regulations and ensure the company is in compliance.
    • Work closely with project managers, foremen, and other key personnel to ensure safety protocols are integrated into project plans.
  • Risk Management:
    • Conduct risk assessments for new projects to identify potential safety concerns.
    • Develop strategies to mitigate risks, including the use of specialized equipment or techniques.
    • Monitor ongoing projects for new risks and adjust safety protocols as necessary.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety-related issues on asphalt construction sites.
    • Communicate safety expectations and concerns to all levels of the organization, from laborers to executives.
    • Foster a culture of safety within the organization, encouraging all employees to prioritize safety in their daily work.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Develop and implement emergency response plans for asphalt construction sites.
    • Train employees on emergency procedures, including evacuation routes and first
