The Senior Estimator will play a pivotal role in the success of the company by accurately estimating and preparing bids for multiple concurrent heavy highway projects. These projects will primarily involve asphalt paving, concrete work, earthmoving, and associated civil construction tasks. The Senior Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed cost estimates, managing project schedules, and ensuring that bid packages are thorough, competitive, and completed on time.
Key Responsibilities:
Accurately estimate costs for a variety of small- to mid-sized heavy highway construction projects, including asphalt paving, concrete work, grading, excavation, and earthmoving. Estimates should include all direct and indirect costs such as labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
Develop detailed and competitive bid packages that clearly outline the scope of work, cost breakdowns, and any project-specific considerations. Ensure bids are submitted on time and meet the client's requirements.
Conduct thorough reviews of project plans, specifications, and contract documents to identify potential risks, scope changes, and opportunities for value engineering.
Work directly with customers, including owners, engineers, and contractors, to clarify project scope, resolve questions, and ensure that all parties have a clear understanding of the project requirements.
Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure accurate cost estimates are aligned
Perform cost analysis on materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors to ensure accurate and competitive pricing
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in estimating for heavy highway, earthwork, and/or concrete construction projects. Experience with small- to mid-sized projects is preferred.
Strong understanding of asphalt, concrete, grading, excavation, and related civil construction processes. Familiarity with current industry standards, codes, and regulations is essential.
Experience with construction estimating software (such as HeavyBid, HCSS, Bid2Win, or similar tools) and digital project management platforms. Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), are required.
