Job Description
This Senior level Facilities Modernization Director will lead strategic initiatives to modernize and transform infrastructure, systems, and technologies across operations and government installations. They will oversee multiple teams and managers. This role drives innovation, efficiency, and safety by identifying and executing modernization projects that implement advanced solutions, reporting directly to the VP of Operations.
Duties
Strategic Planning: Develop a comprehensive modernization strategy aligned with business priorities; collaborate with executive leadership to identify and prioritize key initiatives
Technology Optimization: Lead selection and implementation of new technologies; manage upgrades to legacy systems, ensuring scalability and security
Process Optimization: Analyze and enhance workflows to improve productivity; implement lean and agile methodologies to streamline operations
Change Management: Drive organizational consistency; lead change initiatives with clear communication plans and training programs
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with stakeholders to align modernization efforts with strategic goals; engage customers to foster strong relationships
Performance Measurement & Reporting: Track and report on modernization initiatives through KPIs and metrics; prepare reports for leadership and customer reviews
Leadership: Foster a high-performance team culture, setting standards for collaboration, commitment, and continuous improvement
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related STEM field; Master's preferred
Experience: 15+ years leading large-scale modernization programs for U.S. government initiatives, including change management efforts, with a minimum program budget of $100 million. Department of Energy (DOE) experience is a plus
Technical Skills: Energetics experience. Strong understanding of trends in automation, digital twin technology, system integration, and data analytics
Project Management: Ability to understand and coordinate between diverse disciplines, such as GCs, Energetic process engineers, USG compliance entities, executives; knowledge of DoD contracting and compliance
Leadership: Experienced in building effective teams and driving project execution; Experience in leading teams executing $100-500m projects
Financial Acumen: Experience with cost scheduling of large construction projects. Greenfield project experience a plus
Other Requirements
Travel: 50% or more, including occasional international as required
Background Check: Required prior to employment
Compliance: Must be a U.S. Citizen able to apply for security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications in project management, change management, or related fields
Knowledge of Quality Management principles, including Six Sigma, DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), and Operational Excellence
Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement (CI) practices
Note: This role requires strategic and operational expertise within manufacturing and government facilities. Candidates must demonstrate experience with government modernization projects, energetics, and knowledge of industry trends, including process automation and digital integration.
