Job Overview:
Under general supervision of the Supervising Program Technician III, the Program Technician (PT) III in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Response Unit of the Applicant Services Program is responsible for the analysis and processing of FBI applicant returns that result in an out-of-state criminal history record.
You must have a thorough knowledge of the various California statutes and court orders which govern the dissemination of criminal history record information for applicant purposes and be able to make decisions regarding dissemination using these guidelines.
The PT III must be able to recognize terminology and the legislative intent as it relates to other states laws. The PT III is responsible for analyzing arrest disposition data to determine whether it conforms to California statute and court orders and adding the disposition information to the record and disseminating it to authorized client agencies. The PT III routinely contacts law enforcement agencies by telephone for clarification of information and searches various databases via the Internet to obtain disposition information.
Job Duties:
Analyzes applicant FBI returns that contain criminal history information and prepares an appropriate response in compliance with existing policy, statute, and court orders.
Identifies FBI rap sheets which have out-of-state criminal entries without final disposition and contacts appropriate agencies for disposition information.
Maintains index of out-of-state law enforcement agencies with laws or regulations which prohibit or restrict the availability of disposition information for applicant purposes.
