Job Description:
The Systems Architect will play a critical role in advancing the Illinois Department of Public Health's mission by designing, developing, and implementing scalable technical solutions leveraging Snowflake's cloud data platform. This role involves cloud architecture expertise, data modernization strategies, and transitioning on-premises systems to a robust cloud-based infrastructure. As part of the CDC Foundation's Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), this architect will contribute to transformative public health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and deploy secure, scalable cloud architectures on Snowflake, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and best practices.
Lead the implementation of user access management systems with role-based permissions for health departments.
Collaborate on configuring and establishing a functional, cloud-based master person index environment.
Manage migrations from on-premises to cloud environments using automated, repeatable processes (e.g., Infrastructure as Code, DevOps).
Define architecture policies, standards, and best practices to ensure system interoperability and consistency.
Facilitate real-time analytics, machine learning integrations, and reporting through well-designed architecture.
Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to support new architectural changes or initiatives.
Ensure architecture complies with security, regulatory, and governance standards.
Mentor team members in Snowflake best practices and assist with comprehensive architecture documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in system architecture, cloud platforms, and technical security.
Expertise in Snowflake architecture, including integrations for AI/ML workloads and data governance.
Hands-on experience with programming languages like Python, Java, and SQL.
Familiarity with tools and methodologies such as DevOps, CI/CD, and Git.
Proven success in managing migrations and re-engineering legacy systems.
Snowflake certification (e.g., SnowPro Core or Advanced Certifications) is preferred.
Strong analytical skills with an ability to address complex multi-system integration challenges.
Effective communicator with experience in cross-functional and remote team collaboration.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
Experience with federal IT systems, including CIS and NIST standards.
Knowledge of data lake architectures and hybrid cloud environments.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000 base salary, commensurate with knowledge and experience.
