Director of Development

Robert Half is search for a talented Director of Development who will lead all technology efforts related to application development, database programming and administration, scripting, quality control and client implementations. Works with internal and external stakeholders to determine appropriate strategies and execute solutions that are in alignment with business objectives while contributing to the success of the company's clients.

This role is 5 days onsite

Responsibilities Include:
  • TEAM LEADERSHIP: Leads a team of skilled developers, database administrators and technical specialists ensuring delivery of high-quality solutions and operational excellence. Oversees and ensures effective departmental processes, strategies, plans and measurement systems to deliver favorable outcomes for the company and its clients.
  • STRATEGY: Plays pivotal role in shaping the overall technology roadmap including web applications, data management, and implementation processes.
  • STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION: Works closely with internal stakeholders (Sales, Client Success, Operations, Back Office, Executive Team) and external stakeholders (clients, vendors) to understand business needs and deliver impactful technical solutions. Serves as technology expert and assists with sales efforts. Serves as a "face of TI Technology" and visibly participates in industry events and external communication efforts.
  • PROJECT OVERSIGHT: Oversees the development, implementation, and ongoing support of web applications and databases, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and in alignment with business goals.
  • INNOVATION AND BEST PRACTICES: Promotes best practices in software development, database management, and scripting, while encouraging a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • TALENT MANAGEMENT: Provides effective and on-going feedback and coaching to team members and ensures effective development and performance management practices are embraced by team leadership. Recommends staffing changes and/or additions and conducts thorough and effective hiring for all department positions.
  • RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: Ensures effective allocation of resources to meet business needs and drive efficiency.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT: Identifies potential risks related to technology, security, and data, and implements appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • MAINTENANCE OF COMPANY STANDARDS: Maintains an active expert level awareness of Company policies, security protocols, compliance requirements and HR requirements as it relates to managing associate groups and ensures adherence to best practices. Approaches management with professionalism and leads by example at all times.
  • Performs other related assignments as requested

Qualifications Include:

  • EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • EXPERIENCE:10+ years experience in application development encompassing a variety of technologies and platforms, with 5+ years experience in a significant leadership role.
  • HANDS-ON: The ability to engineer complex solutions with a proactive approach to development and a readiness to dive into tasks when needed, including design, flowcharting, coding new features, debugging, and implementing urgent fixes. Demonstrated expertise in multiple development languages and technologies, with a focus on delivering high-quality, efficient outcomes.
  • SYSTEM ARCHITECT DESIGN: Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, design, and oversee the architecture of complex systems that are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business goals. Proficient in analyzing requirements, identifying potential bottlenecks, and selecting appropriate frameworks, tools, and platforms to ensure optimal performance and security. Skilled in designing both high-level system architecture and detailed component interactions, ensuring seamless integration, maintainability, and adaptability to future enhancements.
  • SQL DATABASE AND DESIGN EXPERTISE: Extensive experience managing and optimizing MS SQL databases, designing robust schemas, and maintaining data integrity. Proven ability to troubleshoot, refine, and optimize complex SQL queries and scripts to ensure peak performance.
  • WEB DEVELOPMENT: Deep hands-on experience with modern web development frameworks for HTML/CSS, ColdFusion (will remain as the primary web language of choice), and Java. Strong understanding of best practices in scalability, security, and responsive design, ensuring applications are performant and secure.
  • SERVER, NETWORK, AND DOMAIN KNOWLEDGE: In-depth understanding of server management, network configurations, and domain architecture to support secure, efficient, and high-performing applications. Skilled in understanding these server environments, load balancing, ensuring network security, and optimizing traffic flow. Expertise in understanding DNS management, IP routing, firewall settings, and VPNs to maintain a stable and secure infrastructure.
  • ANALYTICAL SKILLS: Ability to analyze statistical performance and operational data, develop management summary reports and proactively develop action plans. Working knowledge of contact center operations and key performance metrics.
  • OTHER TECHNICAL SKILLS: Solid digital literacy with common business tools including internet, chat and email. Strong skills with MS Office, Google Business Suite or similar. Experience and skills with one or more GDS systems and other travel industry systems, and knowledge of contact center systems and tools, preferred.
  • LEADERSHIP: Demonstrated ability to coach and lead others is required as evidenced by prior leadership experience. Experience in handling personnel-related issues and developing and retaining staff. Advanced skills in motivating and inspiring others. Track record of providing technical direction, mentorship and coaching to development teams. Ability to set standards for code quality, development practices and project management within a collaborative environment.
  • COACHING: Prior experience effectively managing personnel and uses appropriate feedback and performance correction techniques to develop personnel; administers performance management process correctly; demonstrated ability to coach other leaders.
  • COMMUNICATION: Communicates effectively and professionally with associates, team members, leadership and clients.
  • TALENT MANAGEMENT: Demonstrated ability to lead a team in the effective recruitment, development, coaching and performance management of associates.
  • DETAIL AND PROCESS ORIENTATION: Strong process orientation with the ability to identify improvement opportunities; works collaboratively with Company staff on projects that include processes, tools and offering development. Detail oriented with the ability to see the big picture and helps leaders on team develop this ability.
  • RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Strong ability to build consultative client, associate and team relationships. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clients and internal partners and to successfully manage conflict. Forges solid and respectful working relationships with team and superiors.
