The laboratory technician position is a part-time/PRN position with the possibility of going full-time. Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field is required. Two years of experience in a high complexity biological testing lab preferred. Experience and proficiency with processing biological specimens preferred.
Summary of Role
The ideal candidate would be able to robustly execute the necessary daily operations of a CLIA-certified laboratory autonomously: perform molecular biology lab work, operate and troubleshoot lab instruments, ensure quality adherence to daily workflow, and effectively communicate with our clients to provide updates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Perform DNA/RNA extraction and PCR on clinical samples using KingFisher and Applied Biosystems Quantstudio • Accurately record results in accordance to established standard and QA to all lab areas • Perform sample accessioning and processing • Put together specimen collection kits and send to clients • Monitoring test analysis and specimen examination to ensure that testing meets all acceptable performance criteria • Performing proficiency testing or split sample testing • Maintaining inventory in a neat and acceptable manner • Participating in continuing education and in-service programs • Monitors test analysis and specimen examination to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance is maintained • Help solve technical problems • Ensure patient test results are not reported unless all criteria for test performance characteristics are acceptable.
Required Qualifications
To qualify for this position, one of the following requirements must be met in accordance with state and federal guidelines: • Education and training equivalent to an associate degree in biology, chemistry, or related field: 60 semester hours including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours science courses (6 hours chemistry, 6 hours biology, and 12 hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology, or any combination) • Associate degree in laboratory science, medical laboratory technology, or biology • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or related field • Masters in clinical laboratory science, medical technology, or chemical, physical, biological science
