Under the direction of the Commercial Office Supervisor III or the Commercial Office Supervisor II, the Customer Service Representative follows established guidelines to receive customer payments and answer customer questions, comments or complaints. May be assigned to El Monte, Industry, or Whittier Commercial Office locations.
JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties which may include, but would not be limited to, the following:
Receive cash over the counter in payment of water bills.
Balance cash and checks received at the close of each business day.
Prepare and process new service orders.
Prepare customer service applications and turn-off orders for customers.
Prepare delinquent shut-off orders.
Process night depository payments.
Prepare customer complaint forms.
Process returned mail and returned checks.
Prepare bank deposits.
Prepare fire hydrant use permits and process fire hydrant meter applications.
Process closing water bills and assist, when needed, in follow-up collection efforts.
Review customer billing history including skips and re-reads.
File paperwork.
Provide switchboard relief.
Must be prepared to travel to other offices to replace employees, as needed.
Other tasks and duties as directed.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but are not limited to:
Basic mathematical skills to accurately process cash payments and make change.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with customers and general public.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to write legibly and have good reading skill, as well as ability to quickly comprehend.
Ability to operate calculator by touch and to type and use a keyboard with a high degree of accuracy.
Working knowledge of company policies and procedures.
Must be dependable, punctual, and have a neat and presentable appearance.
Ability to interact with supervisors and co-workers in a cooperative and professional manner.
Good alphabetical and numerical filing skills.
Ability to perform repetitive physical activities, including using keyboard, sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, grasp, push, pull, and lift up to 15 lbs.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
The following are required:
Bilingual in Mandarin/Cantonese is required.
High school diploma.
Customer service/cashier experience preferred
Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record.
