The SARA, Inc. High Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Research Engineer with a focus on bioelectromagnetics to join our interdisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the study of electromagnetic fields and their interaction with biological systems. This role requires a deep understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of bioelectromagnetics, applied physics, and related research methodologies. The candidate will contribute to the development of innovative solutions and technologies that advance our understanding and application of electromagnetic principles in various domains including medical devices, health diagnostics, and environmental health. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers. Our small group will allow the candidate to experience, contribute, and collaborate in a multidisciplinary nature from conception all the way through to operation.
The candidate must be a high-performing engineer with a substantial technical pedigree in Bioelectromagnetics and Applied Physics. Candidates must be strong team participants, have excellent communication skills, be resourceful and creative, and willing to contribute to a multidisciplinary and fast-paced engineering environment.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and test electromagnetic systems and devices for a variety of applications
Conduct research on the interaction of electromagnetic fields with biological tissues and develop models to predict these interactions
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate electromagnetic systems with other technologies
Analyze and interpret data from experiments and simulations and prepare technical reports and presentations
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bioelectromagnetics, applied physics, and related fields
Contribute to the writing of proposals and the pursuit of funding opportunities
Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards in the design and development of bioelectromagnetic, technologies, devices, and systems
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate electromagnetic technologies into broader systems, addressing challenges in electromagnetic compatibility and safety
Mentor junior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning
Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, test reports, and operational manuals
Technical Skillsets
Strong foundation in electromagnetic theory, with hands-on experience in simulation tools like COMSOL Multiphysics, CST, or ANSYS HFSS
Proficient in programming languages such as Python or MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and automation of research processes
Knowledge in setting up and conducting experiments, including the use of instrumentation to measure electromagnetic fields and biological responses
Ability to perform statistical analysis and visualize data, extracting meaningful insights from complex datasets
Strong background in electromagnetic theory and signal processing
Understanding of regulatory standards and compliance requirements related to bioelectromagnetic devices

Minimum Requirements:
Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with a focus on bioelectromagnetics
2 – 3 years of relevant experience in bioelectromagnetic research or engineering
Strong foundation in electromagnetic theory and its application to biological systems
Proficiency in simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, CST) and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret or equivalent clearance
May require moderate physical effort or carrying/lifting up to 50 pounds
Available for moderate levels of travel and off-site work
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, with a focus on bioelectromagnetics
4 years of relevant experience in bioelectromagnetic research or engineering
Demonstrated record of scientific research and publication in peer-reviewed journals
Experience with the development and regulatory approval process of medical devices or health technologies
Knowledge of additional fields such as electromagnetic field theory, materials science, or bioengineering
Experience mentoring and leading teams in a technical capacity
Active DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance

Salary Range: $95,000 - $145,000
