As our Senior Avionics Systems Engineer for our Navigation Systems, you will be responsible for the life-cycle development activities for moderate projects, applying systems engineering processes to update and create new avionics products through certification, independent task estimating, demonstration of product compliance to customer and/or regulatory requirements, and in-service product support. This position requires general to intermittent supervision on work assignments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities includes the following:
Define required system task for a project and estimate time to complete task.
Support on-aircraft avionics systems testing, perform software/systems/hardware integration testing on products, support RTCA/DO-160 qualification testing, support verification testing, and production acceptance test validation.
Create functional description and graphics for avionics systems technical documents.
Assist in development of interface description and systems requirements from customer requirements, researching TSOA, MOPS, and Advisory Circulars for products.
Clearly articulate estimates of work tasks and general status, time to complete tasks, and be able to maintain “the bigger picture” of a project in order to provide accurate assessments of day-to-day work to peers and management.
Solve problems with minimal direction using general engineering best practices and be willing to help others when needed to meet deadlines and scheduled scope.
Must be able to contribute to ROMs and estimates as requested by leadership.
Specify subcontract requirements for testing and product development.
Ensure system requirements are allocated and traced to subsystems e.g. hardware, software and database.
Develop (or revise) content for the TSOA, Advisory Circular or TSO compliance matrix report(s) and justify compliance rationales.
Provide technical support and solutions as requested by field support engineers and customer feedback on products.
Fulfill the role of Systems Lead on projects as required by leadership.
Be a subject matter expect on a product or functional area related to avionics.
Maintain awareness of industry trends in avionics engineering in order to contribute to new and novel approaches to systems engineering design.
Be able to approach issues with a problem-solving mentality.
Mentor other engineers.
Required Qualifications:
B.S. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
Have the ability to provide clear written and verbal English communication of system requirements and test results to software and hardware engineering teams, product support, manufacturing, marketing/sales, management, customers, and certification authorities.
Team player with the ability to provide clear written and verbal English communication of system requirements and test results to software and hardware engineering teams and management.
Knowledge of applicable certification/development standards and guidance, including DO-160, DO-178, DO-254, ACs, TSOs, GAMA, SAE, and MOPS associated with aircraft avionics systems.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to perform color evaluations with the naked eye per GAMA and SAE human factors standards. Ability to perform as a flight crew member to support avionics systems testing during ground and flight tests.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Education and/or Experience:
5+ years developing flight deck avionics, navigation, and communication systems.
Pilot’s license or exposure to aircraft in an operational setting.
Proficient with Microsoft Visio, AutoCad.
Experience with Jira project tracking software.
Experience testing and troubleshooting complex software systems.
Experience with requirements management database tools (DOORS, Polarian, etc.).
Experience or exposure with respect to cybersecurity is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of UASC's systems development processes and procedures.

Experience with one or more high-level programming languages, including C or C++ (desirable).
Experience with use of Matlab or similar tools for modeling is beneficial.
Proficient with Microsoft Visio, AutoCad.
Working knowledge of requirements management database tools (DOORS and Polarion).
