Description:
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Assistant Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of artificial intelligence applications, machine learning algorithms, adaptive therapy or advanced imaging. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree. ABR board eligibility in therapeutic radiological physics is required, and ABR board certification is expected within the first two years.
Teaching responsibilities may include the teaching and training of radiation oncology residents, medical physics residents, medical physics graduate students, etc.
Clinical responsibilities may include supporting a full range of clinical physics activities, such as linac-based radiation therapy, brachytherapy, proton therapy, etc. at the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include actively and independently contributing to departmental research. The department has a range of innovative research projects, which include but are not limited to proton and x-ray FLASH therapy, advanced imaging (dual energy CT, Cherenkov imaging, in vivo proton imaging etc.), photodynamic therapy, bioinformatics, outcome analysis, etc. With increasing needs in automation and clinical decision support, candidates with clinical experience in translating artificial intelligence or machine learning algorithms into clinical practice will be preferred. Evidence of scholarship is a strong requirement in the Clinician-Educator track. We seek candidates who are interested in seeking extramural grant funding (NIH or other sources) as PI or in collaboration with other faculty within Penn in order for the candidate to support an independent research program.
Penn Radiation Oncology is dedicated to a three-part mission of excellence in patient care, basic and translational research, and the education of residents and medical students. The Radiation Oncology clinic, located in the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, includes five Varian linacs (3 Truebeams, 2 Halcyons one of which has HyperSight), a Varian HDR unit, two Siemens dual-energy CT (Drive and Edge) simulators, a Siemens Sola MRI unit, and a Philips wide bore PET/CT unit. We provide a full range of radiation oncology services (IMRT, brachytherapy, TBI, SRS, and SBRT) and have an active development program in all aspects of radiotherapy physics. We are also active in photodynamic therapy research. The Roberts Proton Therapy Center opened in 2009 and is integrated with the photon therapy clinic. It houses the largest proton therapy facility in the USA, comprising four gantry treatment rooms, one fixed beam room, and a dedicated research room. The existing facility has been fully upgraded to the latest pencil beam scanning technology with in-room CBCT and motion management capabilities. Two new single-room proton treatment centers are located at Penn Network facilities. The clinic has a hub-and-spoke model for deploying new clinical technologies across 16 network sites which include adaptive therapy (Ethos) and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS/SBRT using Gamma Knife /Cyberknife/Varian Linac). Penn Radiation Oncology is not only committed to delivering high-quality radiation therapy, but also to enhancing and improving upon the patient experience by providing a full range of clinical services. An integral component of the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Radiation Oncology, can draw upon the center's full resources to deliver the best possible overall care.
