Job Description Summary
The Department of Ophthalmology seeks a motivated individual to oversees strategic planning and day to day management of complex and broad range of projects benefitting the eight labs/PIs in in the FM Kirby Center for Molecular Ophthalmology.


Position is contingent upon funding.

Job Description


Project Manager B Job Responsibilities



  • Identify potential grant opportunities and collaborate with PIs to develop fundable ideas. Draft and review proposals for external funding. Prepare reports for research sponsors and PI. Oversee compliance with NIH data management and sharing for the Center.

  • Assure that all research in the Center is conducted safely and according to protocol, and remains in compliance with sponsor, university, school, IACUC and EHRS policies.

  • Develop and manage Center communications with internal and external entities.

  • Demonstrate the Center's research progress by preparing abstracts and presentations for national and international conferences.

  • Publish and maintain the Center's website, including updating lab names and research topics, publications, grants, and announcing new research findings.

  • Contribute to interpretation and analysis of data and lead preparation of research manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

  • Develop a strategy to optimize use of space in the Center. Manage removal of outdated equipment, selection and purchase of new equipment, maintenance of service contracts, and interaction with equipment service personnel.

  • Serve as point of contact for Space Planning and Operations for Center renovations and remodeling.

  • Develop a strategy to select new cutting-edge equipment that will advance our research techniques and serve many of the 8 labs.

  • Apply for grants to purchase said equipment, including NIH shared equipment grants.

  • Develop and optimize protocols and train investigators in the use of advanced laboratory research equipment. Such equipment/techniques may include spatial transcriptomics with 10X genomics Xenium and Visium, qPCR, Jess Western, Aperio slide scanner, image quantification and generation of retinal cells from human-derived pluripotent stem cells.

  • Perform other duties as assigned




Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, and 5 to 7 years or Master of Science, Master of Arts, and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • Prior experience with basic and translational research including at least 5 years of post-college research which must include completion of a Master's program or higher

  • While not required, knowledge of transcriptomics, qPCR, Western blotting, cell culture, image analysis, grant writing and programming skills would strengthen a candidate's application. Teaching/training/communication and organizing skills are essential.

  • Publish and maintain the Center's website, including updating lab names and research topics, publications, grants, and announcing new research findings.

  • Contribute to interpretation and analysis of data and lead preparation of research manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
