Job Description
Responsible for auditing in-process hot work including physical inspection of ship areas, equipment, care and protection, etc., and where necessary, shut down work or take other immediate action to alleviate fire and safety hazards. The Fire Marshal is responsible for ensuring compliance to Command Media documents that pertain to hot work and fire prevention. Successful candidate is expected to coach and counsel personnel on care and protection, ship cleanliness, and at risk behaviors when the Fire Marshal encounters employees performing in a negative manor concerning these issues.
The Fire Marshal is responsible for responding to shipboard fires and emergency calls. Assist casualty response team, including providing assistance in crowd control, securing area, work-site evacuation, and obtaining temporary services. Assist Ships Management and Fire Department personnel in the investigation of fire incidents to determine root cause. A candidate must be able to apply a comprehensive understanding of shipboard fire protection and control requirements and a strong knowledge of shipboard structures, systems, compartments, arrangement and nomenclature, generally gained through 6 or more years of production experience. Candidate must have a strong knowledge of hot work operations and fire prevention measures required to keep the employees and vessel safe. A candidate must also have strong interpersonal and communications skills, as the job requires conflict resolution and interactions with Craft Employees and Ship's Management.
Additional common management responsibilities as listed in Shipbuilding Management Charter 0001 within command media (SBMC 0001) and applicants should review the Charter and policies and procedures before applying for position.
Basic Qualifications
High School diploma or GED required and six (6) years of shipyard experience.
