Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

TranSystems’ office has an immediate opening for a Transportation Lead/Senior Project Manager in Charleston, West Virginia. Candidates will be responsible to continue to establish and grow the TranSystems brand; developing strong relationships with WVDOH, local entities, and the consultant community.  Candidates will function as a Project Manager and/or Task Manager on projects with WVDOH and will be responsible to lead a team of bridge engineers and designers in completing the structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges along with the preparation of load ratings, construction documents, specifications, and estimates.  Additionally, responsibilities will be to provide quality control for local, regional, and national bridge inspection projects as part of our National Bridge Practice.  Applicants must possess strong technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be able to work well in a team environment.  Assignments may involve travel within the continental United States.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):


  • Provide direction and oversight of significant inspection projects within the State of West Virginia, and potentially in other geographies within the region.

  • Along with regional leadership, determine pursuit strategy for projects specifically with WVDOH, and lead a team in the preparation of Letters of Qualification, project interviews, etc.

  • Assist the National Bridge Practice with the development of pursuit strategy and execution thereof for bridge inspection projects on a regional and national scale.

  • Bridge inspection assignments as an inspection Team Leader or Team Member and prepare bridge inspection reports documenting inspection findings.

  • Prepare or preferably direct structure design assignments involving the development of calculations, contract plans preparation and specifications, requiring quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets and schedules.

  • Prepare or preferably direct development of letters, technical reports, sketches, tables, and other documents required for design submissions.

  • Ensure project delivery is compliant with quality control procedures and standards and with client and company specific guidelines, as well as on time and within budget.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

  • Provide the leadership and energy necessary to motivate the project team to achieve established goals and exceed the client’s expectations.

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering with an emphasis in structures from an ABET-accredited university or college

  • 15+ years of design/management experience in structural bridge engineering assignments

  • Registration as a licensed Professional Engineer in West Virginia

  • Established working relationships with WVDOH and other state agencies, and a thorough knowledge and understanding of their policies and guidelines

  • Team oriented engineer and strong communicator with ability to work concurrently within multiple project demands and transitioning priorities

  • Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Experienced Project Manager and/or Task Manager

  • Involvement in professional societies and/or organizations within the transportation industry

  • Experience with the preparation of Letters of Qualification, Technical and Price Proposals

  • Completion of the following: NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130055 and associated refreshers/NSTM training
