We are seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Controller with 10+ years of expertise in real estate accounting to oversee all accounting, tax compliance, and financial reporting functions. This role demands a hands-on professional with strong technical accounting skills and the ability to manage complex, multi-entity structures. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of commercial real estate development, property accounting, and compliance requirements, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial real estate accounting, with a focus on development projects and multi-entity structures.
  • Deep expertise in corporate, property, partnership, and tax accounting, including lease accounting.
  • Experience managing multi-entity tax compliance (e.g., partnership, corporate, and multi-state filings).
  • Strong knowledge of commercial loan accounting, including refinancing and modifications.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Yardi Voyager) and advanced Excel tools (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas).
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a detail-oriented mindset.

Essential Duties:
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including corporate, property, partnership, and tax accounting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and monthly reconciliations.
  • Maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Manage the preparation and filing of multi-entity tax returns, including partnership and multi-state sales/use tax filings.
  • Collaborate with external CPA firms to ensure accuracy and compliance in tax submissions.
  • Oversee compliance with business licenses, registered agent requirements, and nonprofit filings.
  • Track financial performance and costs for commercial lease structures and real estate development projects.
  • Ensure proper allocation of development expenses and accurate cost reporting.
  • Manage accounting for acquisitions, dispositions, and capital improvements.
  • Lead the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial performance analyses.
  • Develop tools and reports to support decision-making using Excel and ERP systems.
  • Conduct detailed analyses of project profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee banking operations, including management of multiple bank and investment accounts.
  • Handle accounting for complex commercial loan structures, including compliance with lender covenants.
  • Ensure efficient cash flow management and develop strategies to optimize reserves.
  • Manage and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and accountability.
  • Provide hands-on support for complex accounting tasks and special projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align financial reporting with organizational goals.
  • Oversee compliance with insurance programs, ensuring adequate coverage across all entities.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.

Certifications:
  • CPA, CMA, CFA, or CCIM would make you more competitive.
