Korean Language Instructor - Post-DLPT Course at Monterey, CA at ICA Language Services in Monterey, California

Job Description:

ICA is currently seeking an experienced Korean language instructor to teach a Post-DLPT course to adult professionals in person at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA. The candidates should have at least two years of work experience teaching the Korean language to adult students on an intensive basis.

Job Details:

• Period of performance: 1/17/2025 - 3/14/2025


• Pay rate: $30.00 per hour


• Location: Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in Monterey, CA


• Travel, lodging, per diem included


• Training days: Monday through Friday


• Schedule: 7:45 am - 4:45 pm

Duties:

• Plan and conduct target language classes using a variety of teaching techniques and approaches, to develop students listening, reading, and speaking skills;


• Administer weekly quizzes and assessments, and conduct other informal or formal evaluations of students learning progress;


• Provide monthly written reports of the students' progress to the supervisor and jointly develop plans to address any potential issues;


• Maximize the use of instructional technology and online learning resources into teaching to support independent learning;


• Adjust teaching techniques and approaches to the student's individual learning styles and professional needs;


• To promote cultural learning, propose and participate in cultural activities beyond-the-classroom. Take part in culture events at school and visit local native speakers community events, cultural centers, restaurants, and shops.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Native or near-native level speaker of Korean language, ILR Level 3 or higher


• BA or higher degree in Second Language Acquisition, Linguistics, ESL, or a related field


• At least 2 years of experience teaching in an intensive (4-6 hours per day) training program, teaching adults using proficiency-oriented methods and materials


• Experience in developing or conducting proficiency testing is a plus


• Experience using technology in the classroom is highly desired
