Federal Reserve Bank of ChicagoThe Senior External Affairs Analyst is responsible for the creation and execution of external communications strategies that support and elevate the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. This person is responsible for the preparation and management of external communications and engagements with a focus on government officials, while collaborating on the development of outreach plans and communications strategies for the external affairs department overall.
Outreach to government officials should be designed in a way that is strategic, proactive and supports overarching communications and outreach goals. This person will work closely with speech, media and other internal teams, support public outreach events of bank leaders and coordinate with external parties.
This work will include direct Capitol Hill outreach, preparing bank leaders and/or subject matter experts for legislative meetings, and performing advance and related work for external engagements by bank leaders and day-of support in coordination with the broader external affairs team.
The level of work required is considered advanced and operates under minimal supervision. This job has no direct reports.
Internally this role will be listed as Senior Outreach Program Representative.
Your Responsibilities:
Develops government relations outreach strategies focused on Governors, Members of Congress and their staffs to provide information on the policymaking processes and economic research of the Chicago Fed and larger Federal Reserve System.
Serves as Bank subject matter expert in non-partisan outreach to elected officials, including interacting directly with policymakers and staff on behalf of the Bank.
Proactively identifies opportunities for the Bank's subject matter experts to meet with elected officials and their staff to enhance knowledge of the Federal Reserve and regional and U.S. economy.
Monitors and assesses legislation relevant to the Bank, the Federal Reserve System, and the financial services industry, with a focus on Congress. Proactively informs Bank leadership on potential impacts.
Supports strategies for and planning and execution of public outreach by bank leaders across the district.
Measures the outcomes of outreach and evaluates impact.
Represents the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago on Federal Reserve System groups
Plans, creates and initiates communications projects/materials such as talking points, summaries, official comments, and news releases; provides support on the development of more complex communications projects.
Partners with media relations team, social media and others on digital platforms and mediums to support communications strategies.
Your Background:
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or work equivalent in political science, journalism, communications, public relations or related field.
Record of tracking legislation, building and executing strategies and establishing productive relationships with policymakers and their staffs at the Federal level
At least five years of related work experience.
Knowledge and Skills
Excellent strategic, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills
Experience in government relations, especially Federal legislative processes
Understand integrated approach to public affairs that brings together government relations, media relations, digital communications and public outreach
Ability to explain and simplify complex topics to general audiences
Understand and have an interest in financial services, economics and community development
Collaborative, works well with others and can thrive in a team environment
Proactive with ability to anticipate needs of our stakeholders
Ability to work under deadline and balance a range of short-term and long-term projects

Additional Requirements:
This is a hybrid position requiring a minimum of two days per week in office.
Approximately 10% travel.
