We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Vienna, VA office.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will:
Working heavily in the field with construction monitoring, drilling, water/soil sampling
Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary project teams and support team members to address client goals and objectives.
Understand client needs and develop strong client relationships.
Be capable of managing financial and technical aspects of project tasks.
Be motivated to communicate changes, problems, and client requests promptly.
Demonstrate very strong verbal communication and written skills including internal correspondence, client deliverables and regulatory submittals.
Assist in identifying and communicating technical issues and approaches for evaluation, contribute to development of technical approaches to problem-solving and scopes of work, and execute project tasks to meet technical, quality, budgetary and scheduling requirements.
Have experience with preparation and implementation of safety programs. Adhere to Site Specific Health and Safety Plans. As applicable, participate in site safety briefings and audits by both contractors and Haley & Aldrich.
Monitor subsurface exploration and testing activities (e.g., test borings geoprobes, CPTs) to collect soil, bedrock, and groundwater samples, perform soil classification, and collect other pertinent information for project design in accordance with applicable ASTM standards, company standard procedures, and other industry standard guidelines.
Provide construction monitoring/on-site engineering observation for both geotechnical and environmental projects.
Compile, reduce, analyze, manage, and report field, instrumentation, geological, and/or environmental data using spreadsheets and other tools.
Conduct and analyze routine data collection, synthesis, management and analysis using approved procedures appropriate for their discipline.
Ability to interpret and communicate technical aspects of the project to onsite personnel.
Demonstrate strong aptitude and eagerness for coaching and mentoring.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, or other related discipline required.
M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering required.
0-2 years of relevant geotechnical experience that includes on-site construction monitoring and experience with excavation, construction dewatering, temporary excavation support systems, and/or slope stability evaluations. Experience with coal combustion residuals (coal ash) a plus.
EIT Certification, a plus.
Knowledge of geotechnical instrumentation programs and related ground movement studies, and experience with monitoring ground movements caused by construction activities, reviewing monitoring data, and communicating results with contractors and owners.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Positive attitude, strong work ethic, flexibility, and willingness to see projects through to completion are a must.
Certification in their core discipline, such as EIT or PE, a plus.
Strong computer literacy skills including proficiency in MS Office software and data management.
Must possess a valid driver's license, have a reliable form of transportation to travel to job sites and the office, and be willing and able to travel to temporary assignments.
OSHA 40-hr. HAZWOPER and OSHA 10-hr. Construction Site Safety training preferred (or provided as needed).
