This role is crucial in providing expert guidance on leave of absence (LOA) programs, disability management, and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ideal candidate will serve as the organization’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for LOA and ADA, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and internal policies.

Position Highlights:

  • $70,000-$94,000 DOE with the ability to go higher for highly experienced candidates

Essential Functions/Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Provide advice, direction, and expert guidance to supervisors and staff on LOA, short- and long-term disability management, and ADA compliance.
  • Serve as the organization’s LOA SME, overseeing and administering multiple federal, state, and internal LOA programs.
  • Ensure compliance with FMLA, WA PFML, OR PFMLI, ADA, Washington Law Against Discrimination, BOLI law, and organizational policies.
  • Interpret, maintain, and ensure consistent application of policies and procedures for leaves of absence and disability benefits.
  • Review and recommend updates to policy and procedure content to maintain legal compliance and standardization.
  • Partner with TPA, Benefits and Leave Manager, and benefits brokers to monitor service quality.
  • Assess and identify technical solutions for managing LOA programs in-house.
  • Serve as the organization’s ADA SME, developing compliant and efficient ADA programs and processes.
  • Provide consultation and professional-level assessment for accommodation requests.
  • Coordinate with internal parties, medical providers, and TPAs to resolve complex ADA-related issues.
  • Develop and maintain measures to monitor and track LOA and ADA status and compliance.
  • Review and monitor service level agreements to ensure compliance and address service quality issues.
  • Administer multiple states’ Workers Compensation programs, monitor claims, and coordinate with the Employee Health and Safety Department.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, HRIS, HR, or another related field; Four years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for the required education.
  • Experience: 3-5 years experience working within an HR department at a professional level, including interpreting and administering workplace policies.
  • Certifications: Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefit Professional (CBP) preferred. Certified Disability Management Specialist (CDMS) designation, Certified Professional in Disability Management (CPDM) designation, and/or Certified Leave Management Specialist (CLMS) designation preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Knowledge of general employment laws, including FLSA, EEOC, WISHA, Uniformed Services Employment, and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state leave laws, ADA, and workers compensation.
    • Experience managing employee leaves and managing workplace employee accommodations.
    • Skills to prioritize work, handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, and complete projects in a fast-paced environment.
    • Skills to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
    • Skills to handle sensitive situations and confidential information with discretion.
    • Skills to develop effective working relationships to gain trust and establish credibility at all organizational levels.
    • Strong analytical and decision-making skills to assess an issue and determine an optimal solution.
    • Strong customer relations skills.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
    • Proficiency with a variety of computer programs, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Proficiency in third-party administrator (TPA) portals and HRIS systems is required, specifically UKG.
